Sofia Mast "retiring?" The state of American pool

Yes, that was the point. We are guessing at their financial state.

    SVB v. Fedor Gorst

I agree with that. But just like we watched with Earl and Efren, and all the other great of the past, Shane's skills will fade. They allready are, even though it might be imperceptible for now. And when a player is as good as he was (and is) he can still regress a decent amount and remain...

Sofia Mast "retiring?" The state of American pool

If they still live with their parents, apparently not. I think I see fuggles' point. Savannah is earning money but not technically supporting herself (supposedly, as I have not clue what that family dynamic is, and suspect he doesn't either). But that distinction is irrelevant. If your job pays...

    SVB v. Fedor Gorst

I recognize and appreciate that cuesports allows for longer primes than more physically demanding sports. Hoewver, that does not mean its participants do not undergo normal age-related decline. It just means that said decline does not remove participants from high-level competitioon as rapidly...

    SVB v. Fedor Gorst

Yes. He's still late prime, and perhaps nearly as good as he ever was, but he's clearly losing stamina. At his age, about to be 43, he's just going to inch downward from here, in all facets of the game.

Stats -- Shane Van Boening vs. Fedor Gorst 9-Ball Race to 50, July 2026

Yeah 47/50 successful breaks is nuts. His break during their last 10b race to 120 match was on another level, too. If you break better than SVB, you are doing something right.

    SVB v. Fedor Gorst

50-30 Fedor. I want to see a competitive match. Fedor-Filler next, please.

    SVB v. Fedor Gorst

I also feel like Shane gives up to some degree. Both in the last race to 120 vs Fedor and this one he seemed to go limp and listless almost conceding when he still had a reasonable chance.

    SVB v. Fedor Gorst

They are starting earlier today. Maybe that will help him. Edit: typing that made me realize they'd already started. Tune in to see 32-24 Fedor. So much for that idea...

Sofia Mast "retiring?" The state of American pool

If she worked ar McDonald's, would her job not be McDonald's associate? She is doing her job: pool player. She makes money through sponsorships, endorsements, social media, and tournaments, alll directly tied to her play. Just like Fedor Gorst, SVB, and others.

Sofia Mast "retiring?" The state of American pool

Yes, Sofia looks non-chalant almost to the point of indifference or even apathy on some missed shots that would have Savannah visibly steaming. Which one is a better attitude depends on perspective and interpretation.

Where her income comes from has everything to do with it.

    SVB v. Fedor Gorst

Agreed. Any drop in actual play hasn't shown up in Fargo yet. He's maintained his 2nd-place-by-a-nose position. Looking through his recent record, there's still a lot of lopsided victories, with some hill-hill losses sprinkled in. Maybe there's something going on. Or maybe the result...

Sofia Mast "retiring?" The state of American pool

They're real close. I think Sofia has the slightest edge in historical match ups. But clearly Savannah played better in this past tournament, seems more dedicated (for now), and at almost two years younger probably has the higher ceiling. It'll be interesting to see what decision Savannah...
