In my experience, most any rack in decent condition is not the problem on a pool hall table. It's the cloth that over time develops dents that make tight racking difficult. Templates overcome this problem by using their own dents perfectly placed.
I visited Hard Times (Bellflower) once not long before it closed. When I was there they had a 6 x 12 in a separate room and an open Golf game going on non-stop. I found the same thing in a room in Savannah years later. In Savannah, it was more of a friendly game between locals one day a week. I...
A number of years ago I started a list like this for pool games in general (Rules of Thumb in Pool) and later another one for 14.1 (Rules of Thumb in 14.1). Recently I started playing Golf (on a pool table) and I think I've been playing for a long enough time to have recognized some winning...

Player 1 has completed holes 1 through 5 and his ball is sitting so close to hole 6 that we don’t think it can be knocked out of place. We think that Player 1’s ball will...
Seems like you might get the same result by altering where you contact the first rail. I'm sure that I don't know why, but surely there must be a reason.
Some time after seeing "the sign" I had an occasion to meet the owner. He was every bit as offensive as the sign.
I finally went back when I heard that the owner was gone. It seems that he had purchased the place from a business that has several rooms in the area, but he recently sold it back...
I don't use the burnisher as it was intended, but I love it and I've been using it for years.
Instead of burnishing the tip I put the burnisher on the tip every time put the Cue back in the case. Storing the Cue that way keeps the tip from mushrooming in the first place.
Any perfect rack requires a perfect way to position it. That seems to be missing. Those four white lines aren't going to work. Especially because they are not down to the level of the cloth. Maybe the $1,000 improved version will be better.
