I don't know... but a properly roughed tip will hold it better. I tend to apply chalk lightly and avoid rings on the ferrule. Using fresh chalk helps. Run away from cubes with deep craters in them. Some chalks are oilier, but I don't like them. I tried the Kamui, but prefer Tweeten chalk.
I wore out a Triangle and am trying out a thick water buffalo tip. I need to shape it a bit more, but it draws well. I can't go more than about a tip and a half on the cue ball without miscuing. It's less forgiving at this point.
My cue was designed for me. The maker watched me shoot and measured my body like a tailor. I told him the weight, length, tip size and taper that would best meet my needs. Three weeks later I was enjoying the cue.
I know he had his issues with this site, but Fast Larry Gunniger passed away earlier this week. His wife died a day earlier in a tragic traffic accident.

I hope people can forgive whatever...
I pretty much adjust up and down the grip depending on the shot.
My cue is very light and longer than a house cue... made for my reach.
On delicate shots I tend to choke up, while gripping near the
end on long shots.
My cue maker had a tape measure and recorded my joint measurements and all.
He built the exact dimensions, weight, and balance requested.
Every piece was handcrafted in his shop.
I lost a game of straight pool and had to buy my opponent an order of fries earlier this week. Does that count? I stay out of the circle games, but we have people playing for a grand a game.
