My point was that slate was super heavy and from what I know quite expensive to shape and ship and might be slightly dented by pool balls. I was thinking it might even be cheaper to use the super material.

I thought the shaft played very well and was well constructed. Did you mean the product was poor only in the joint adapter or as a whole? I was hearing stuff online that they had a special adapter changing tool and that it was dangerous to change the joint without it.

I checked my shaft after your reply, looking to see if I could remove the initial joint adapter, but I didn't see any seam. I emailed Seyberts.com and confirmed they had installed a permanent joint to the shaft, so it's a no go.
