I've had good luck with a simple high polish on the metal using Collinite and then denatured alcohol to clean and remove any wax, and then two coats of very thin epoxy (heat), and then coat however you like... This is two years old .....

I've had several teammates with this same problem... loosens slightly after a few firm hits and needs a quick twist to tighten. Still hits like a locomotive..
