Why Did They Settle On Maple?

Just an FYI, I am in Kentucky, and all our surrounding states, they have had a bug, called an "Ash Borer" that inflict our Ash Trees. Unless the Ash were treated, they are now dead. This happened three or four years ago, when hunting, you see all the Ash with bark falling off, and they get...

Old Family Brunswick pool table restoring

LOL, The J-10 Honcho is my daily driver. I do not have a garage, so if I drive it or it sits, it still gets weathered. It just turned 13,800 miles being on the road for three and a half years. I live 7 miles away from work... Love my truck, love my old Brunswick... use them every day.

    Brunswick Victor pool table

I completed the "Brunswick Victor pool table" today. I shot a game of 8 ball against myself, I waded over all the tools and support items, not fun, but the table played great. Faster with the Simmons cloth that it ever was, time will tell, but I am very pleased with the outcome. (By the way...

    Brunswick Victor pool table

Well Gents, I have not quit working on the pool table... I have set the slate set, leveled it, repaired damaged areas, blocked sanded the imperfections, and now feel good about the playing surface. The sticky on leveling the table was very helpful. I mounted the rails and found that the old...

What sparked your passion to become a pool player?

Hello BC21, I too am a Mountaineer, Summersville, WV. When I was around 6, my Dad traded an old coal furance that he had removed from the house, for an old pool room Brunswick 8' table. (I am restoring it now, the rest of the story is on the board) I played for six or seven years just for...

Old Family Brunswick pool table restoring

I just installed the old pool cue rack that came with the table, I did a refinish on it, trying to keep it looking old. The sticks in the rack are old Brunswick bar sticks. They are in bad shape but they were what we played with, when we first got the table. Some of the sticks, as...

Old Family Brunswick pool table restoring

Hello all, I am WH, I am in the process of restoring a Brunswick Victor pool table that has been in my family home since the late 50's. My Dad had an oil furnace installed in our house, in 1958 or 59, I was six years old. We were outside looking at the old coal furnace parts that had been...

    Brunswick Victor pool table

Hello RKC, I wiped down the playing surface and did not see any grinding marks as you described. I have seen them in pictures, so I do know what you are talking about. I did a quick blocking over one of the lines in the playing surface, it leveled out fine, but the stripe is darker than the...

    Brunswick Victor pool table

Well Glen, That makes scene, but researching earlier posts, you stated that after the war, they started using Brunstone. I found a link to the patents, and found that Brunswick patented it in early 1980's. Found another off site thread that stated: "Brunswick tried to market a synthetic...

    Brunswick Victor pool table

I finally got the slate moved from West Virginia to Kentucky, got it set in place to acclimate. I noticed three milling marks in each piece of slate. You can feel a raised section at the edge of each. Is this something to be concerned about? If so, how would you address it? Thanks, WH

    Slate temperature changes before setup?

I do not know about the slate, but the wood should acclimate to the warmer temperature. When trimming out a house, it is proper to leave the trim in the heated house for a week to ten days before installing. It makes a great difference as to stabilizing the wood from expansion and contraction.
