Blackball Pool is a very similar variation of English 8-Ball which produced American Pool champions like Jayson Shaw, Darren Appleton, and Chris Melling all from Great Britain. Now for the first time the USA will attempt to enter the world of Blackball by sending a team of five American pool players to compete in the 2022 World Blackball Championships in Tangier, Morocco October 8-15, 2022 in the Senior Division. This world class event is sanctioned by the World Pool and Billiards Association (WPA) under their Blackball International (BI) division. Other WPA divisions include Artistic Pool (WPA-APD), Pyramid Pool (IPC), and Chinese Pool (ICEA).

That is very cool. Variety is the spice of life. More people interested in cue sports is a good thing.

It's a big world out there and with so many cue sport disciplines there is something for everyone who likes to handle a cue stick! The more disciplines a cue artist participates in the more they learn about our amazing sport of pool and billiards! Special thanks to the WPA for sanctioning and approving a variety of cue sports!

I have been catching up on Blackball, from 10 years ago.
There seems to be some big dispute going on though, two World championships.
Same dates.
One in France and one in Morocco.

From what I read, goes back to Blackball International kicking out a board member, Ross McInnes.
Which had a knock on effect with Europe, leaving BI.
Hard to know the ins and outs of it as both sides are claiming breaches of constitutions for respective associations.

Obviously this new USA association has no fight in Europe, and always nice to see any cuesport get represented in a country for the first time.

Anyone here follow Blackball to shed some light on what is going on?

More pool drama? It sounds like the same thing that is going on in American pool and Carom right now. Not exactly what the sport needs.

Yep, it is a real shame to be honest.
Blackball was becoming the standard ruleset for the small ball game.
Now, this split at the top level and its a mess.

No wonder, with the WCBS, cuesports looks like it will never get to the Olympics.

Even Snooker, has a split.
Under the WCBS you have the IBSF, both are supported by Ian Anderson who is the long standing President of the WPA.
However, some history with him and World Snooker, for the professional game run by the WPBSA.
So, 5 years ago they got the WSF going in direct conflict with the IBSF for the amateur game.
But, they can offer spots on the World Snooker tour, unlike the IBSF.
So that is also playing out...

Honestly, I think the only cuesport with no issues is Carom.
The 3 cushion guys under UMB seem stable.

The US team won their first ever Blackball match.

A picture from the tournament posted before they played:
