Though usually followed by “to raise a child,” there is evidence that mounting a professional pool tournament, featuring a large contingent of world-class professional competitors takes the same kind of “village” or community effort. Though a pool tournament only lasts a few days, it takes the same amount of care and coordination, along with an earnest desire to enhance the players’ experience, as raising a child would require over a much greater length of time.
