Are Corey and Melling the 2 best at dissecting an 8 ball rack ever?

Well, like it or not, Ultimate Pool and Ultimate Pool USA are a thing, and are definitely growing. Fun events, and a popular local league scene that is expanding.

Man, the levels of elitism and gatekeeping around here are kinda ridiculous sometimes.
McDonalds sell a lot of burgers, they are a thing worldwide, doesn’t mean that the burger is any good…

Ultimate pool looks fun but should be an amateur event with no pros aloud, eventually the mass will leave if they don’t stand a chance.

It’s not an elitism thing, it’s the simple fact that you can’t speak about how great a player is at a game and call him the best when you refer to a bar box which is an amateur table….

The WPA have table specifications. They mention 9ft. and 8ft. tables. No bar boxes with buckets for pockets.

American pool is struggling in the international arena. Playing on easier equipment is not helping.

Gambling mentality is another big problem. Some say it helps with dealing with pressure but tournaments have a different kind of pressure, if you lose, you’re out, can’t double or nothing…

I disagree with the bolded parts. I think if the pros didn't show up for the UPUSA events, then neither would half of the other players. They are a big draw! So many people I meet at the events are hoping for their chance to draw SVB, Bergman, or one of these UK monsters. It's fun! Many of these players are following the tour around because the entire weekend is so much fun, so well-run, and really just a great weekend full of world-class bar table pool!

Just because the WPA doesn't talk about 7' tables, doesn't automatically make them amateur tables. Once everyone can agree on what defines a "professional", then maybe we can all agree on what conditions they should play on.

You do realize that pool used to be played primarily on 10' tables, right? And that today's 9' tables were the 7' tables of yesteryear?
We don’t live in the past or the future.
We live now and now pros play on 9ft. Tables.

In the future, it might be bar boxes but I have a feeling, it will be 9ft. Chinese heyball table.

American pros over the last 10 years have probably played more on 7' tables than 9' tables, or they wouldn't have been playing at all.

Just saying.

For decades some probably thought it was sad that people were playing on 9 footers.

Yes it is a little bit sad, but welcome to reality.
Not my reality... no one plays here on bar boxes. Only 9ft - 12ft

I mean, the Iowa event last month sure felt like a pro event. Shane took home $10k in prize money between the Shootout and the Open. I guess it wasn't, though, since it wasn't on 9' tables.
They can play 3ball on a 2ft table with chop sticks for $1000000
So what?

You can't cry that the game is too easy and make it easier while failing on the internatioanl arena

There's the elitism again. Who tf is arguing that pool is too easy?? As an everyday league hack ... not me, that's for sure.

When I watch guys like Filler, Gorst, or SVB run out racks, I don't think, "Pshaw, this game is too easy!" Mostly I think, "Man, it must be fun to be that fkn good at pool."

You should read more threads on this forum…

And I don’t think that anyone can argue that a smaller table is harder. Well, they can but they’ll be wrong, that’s not elitism, it’s just fact.

for me it is harder

i’m used to 9’ and play awful on a barbox

it might be in my head and my friends tell me that it makes no sense

a smaller table is easier end of story

but still i play much worse on small tables
