Florida Open 2025, August 5-10, Orlando, Caribe Royale

Would this mean that if they don't do something to account for the tax differential, the winner would actually make less in the end if the finalists chop the pot equally?

When they chop, do they typically do it 50-50 or do they play for some smaller number?

Any player found doing a chop should be banned.

The attraction of sport is watching people play under pressure.

The Gorst-Kaci rack for $150,000 would feel tainted if we knew it was split.

Well, I suppose it’s your prerogative to be disappointed if SVB and Yapp were playing for 2k or 4k instead of 16k. We’ll never know and it doesn’t matter anyway.

I have heard of savers/chops done with 60-40 or similar. Also, sometimes the players could agree in say the round of 16 to split by some ratio whatever the two win in total. Lots of possible variations.

Of course, the winner will get a 1099 for the full amount. I suppose he could claim an expense of, say, $5000 as a "professional fee for my buddy", but that would generate another 1099. A quieter way would be to reduce the saver payment by the estimated tax, but that might be tax fraud.

Hopefully today's players learned from yesterday's players, realize they've got a very good thing with Matchroom and don't do anything stupid to screw it up. I don't think Matchroom would want to get wrapped up in tax evasion issues with any country. I think they have the right and authority to ban a player for unsavory tactics. I'd be shocked if the contracts they signed does not have a clause in it to that effect.

Yapp showed why he can win on a world stage.
Making balls from everywhere to get back in line or just keep coming with another tough shot.

There was nothing SVB really did wrong....it's winner break.

Yapp has a bright future.

Pool players ain't this smart

Just split and 8 ball with some female companions ... off to the next tourney

if i remember right you can do any kind of split with someone and just give the other than the person with the 1099 a 5754 form showing that you had a split with him. so you are not owing the full 1099. its done all the time in gambling.

most informed gambling t.d.s will just give out what is agreed upon to the winners and issue the appropriate 1099. when doing cash.
with checks already written out the 5754 is used and the t.d should have some of those or the cage at least.

unless the t.d. is in on the making of the deal you had better be the one getting the lions share or know the other real well.

SVB lost quite a few games because of his own mistakes. Yapp's only B&Rs were a 3-pack in Games 10-12. SVB got to the table in 20 of the 23 games, 11 on his own break and 9 on Yapp's 12 breaks. Yapp just made fewer errors than SVB.
