Team Asia v. Team Rest of the World, October 16-19, 2025

Jayson’s showmanship combined with him being Emily’s best buddy all but assures he makes the world team.
I like Jayson Shaw a lot, mainly because he's a family man first. I admire a pool professional who plays full-time but yet makes time for his family. It's very hard to balance work and family life on the international pool tournament trail today. As Barry Hearn says, "Family first, business a close second."

Because he's so damn good and animated when he's on a Mosconi Cup stage playing against Team USA, I feel like throwing a tomato at him, but, hey, all's fair in love and pool. In the end, Jayson Shaw is good for the sport. I like the kid, and I will never throw a tomato at him.

I still say it should be the Philippines vs the World, or don't call it the Reyes Cup. Otherwise it is a mini world cup.

Matchroom has altered the selection for Team Asia and Team World for the 2025 Reyes Cup.

Per the company's Youtube site:

Team ROW
Highest Ranked European Player
Highest Ranked USA Player
2 x Captain's Wildcards
1 x WNT Wildcard

Team Asia
Highest Ranked Asian Player
Highest Ranked Filipino Player
2 x Captain's Wildcards
1 x WNT Wildcard

Cutoff is after the Hanoi Open.

No word on potential captains.

TEAM WORLD

As it now stands, Gorst would get the USA slot for Team World.

FSR narrowly leads Filler for the auto European spot, but since Filler doesn't look like he will play in Peri/Hanoi, he probably will be overtaken. He still could get a wildcard pick.

Assuming someone other than Filler gets the Euro autobid, my guess for wild cards is Shaw, SVB and ... Eklent Kaci. You know MR will want to spice things up by bringing Kaci after his recent statements.

Would they really leave Filler out? I can see it given his current plans to play in WPA events that bracket the Hanoi Open. I do think Filler will be on Team Europe for the Mosconi, though.

Hard for me picturing Team World celebrating with each other if they win. Awkward!

TEAM ASIA

Yapp and Biado are locks for the two auto spots on Team Asia.

My guess is Chua, Ko Pin Yi, and Duong will all get reinvited. Team Asia would be the same as last year.

Kaci is useless and SVB/Gorst are awful in team events.

If Matchroom want to make this competitive, they need Filler.

Have you ruled out turnips and cabbages also? :ROFLMAO:

I like Jayson, he's fun to watch in all events and he's good at stirring the pot at just the right time. The hockey player in me loves some well-timed chirping/showmanship.

Gorst is guaranteed a slot via these new rules.

If I were making Team World, I'd go with Gorst, Filler, Shaw, FSR and Kaci - just for entertainment sake.

While I don't think Shane is great for these events or super enjoys them, I can't believe MR will leave him off team World. Not for the very first one. Pinoy fans know who SVB is.
