Karella cues USA or imported????

Karella has, as you are now aware if you read the foregoing, a very interesting backstory.

There is a Karella for sale on ebay, which is what brings this all together, here, today.

I thought it was nice enough looking and had to dig in. As to today's price, I have no idea, but some of our old experts are still today's experts. Anyone?

That pin says carom cue. Nice looking cue.

It's a pool cue.

There are other wood pin pool cues even today. And you can still find new wood pin shafts for them if you hunt a little.

I have been watching this one.

I am frustrated that it is over priced IMHO.

I remember this model. I can't find it in my materials, so I think I didn't save it.

I like it, and I remember liking it years ago. Now? I want it, but the price is too high IMHO.

Karella cues ran the spectrum from crappy cheap cues to better cues. This is one of their better ones.

Manwon gave a basic rundown on the history earlier in this thread.

The only wood pin pool cues i've seen were Kilby and Mariposa. Every other wp shaft i've seen was for carom. The only ADAM wp's i've seen(only a couple) were Helmstetter 3c cues.

I understand. I think a lot of people are probably unaware of more wood pin pool cues. They are a bit unusual.

Right now I need to get to the pharmacy, I had surgery yesterday. Meeds drugs. LOL!

If I get some time and clarity, are you interested to see wood pin pool cues? And I don't man just Chuck Starkey cues.

In the meantime, I promise this one is a pool cue. I am familiar with the model.

Oh, and you can get wood pin pool shafts for carom cues as well. They screw right on. They are available from the same manufacturers of the carom cues. They aren't marketed much in the US as far as I have ever seen.

Holy Smokes, a 16 year old thread of mine.
For anyone interested I eventually shot with this cue and it wasn't too bad. I'm far from an expert but the balance didn't seem much different than my player(R1) and I still have it.

Thanks for jumping back in! The better cues in this brand were pretty decent. Glad to hear your findings.

I always meant to grab one of their Southwest style cues with two shafts when they were cheap. Never did.

There's a guy on FB, goes by'Affordable Pool Cues', that sells Taiwanese SW looking cues for 250. They look pretty nice. He also makes car bon shafts, etc. Has a good rep from what i hear. https://www.facebook.com/Affordablepoolcues

Thanks! There are a variety of such cues available if you hunt around.

I had meant specifically the Karella or KC cues when I said I wished I had grabbed one.

Really it would have just been more a novelty to have one with that exact branding on it.

Also, I like having examples of cue lines so when I say I know how X shoots compared to Y and Z I actually know. Yes, even "cheap" Taiwan cues. Same goes for the fit, finish, construction, etc. I don't just say "I had one 30 years ago and it was blah, blah, blah". I actually own the cues and compare them side by side, on the pool table, with "good" production cues like Pechauer, Joss, Schon, and Jacoby. In my findings, the "better" cues are not as much better as fans would have you think, and the "cheap" cues are not as bad as their detractors would have you think. That's a generalization, of course, and the reality is highly variable.

My recent post of six versions of the same cue design of six different brands from the same factory is a good example. The spectrum of quality is astounding. All the same design from the same factory, with a broad spectrum of quality of execution.

Here is an example. This curly shaft is actually from a Cobra Professional cue. It's a 1994 cue from the 1992 Professional Series catalog, Model CP-01. It's a KaoKao made cue. The fit, finish, and wood are astoundingly good. For example the black joint rings are not plastic, you can see the grain, they are some kind of linen or cotton phenolic. I got it from the original owner, yes it was used, not a closet queen. Condition is excellent. I got it for substantially less than just the shaft would sell for. In fact, it was dirt cheap. Yes, it is dead straight. These aren't even great pictures of it.

Sorry to carry on so much about something probably many won't care about (cheap cues), I am on pain meds from surgery yesterday and am liable to ramble.

No problem, hard to believe I got this more than 16 years ago. It's still has a place in my display cabinet. I really should put it in a case and put a different cue in it but I still like the looks of it.

I think it definitely holds its own in that group. 👍

Nothing wrong with it being among those cues.

Funny to see your hanger tags. I am just now ordering a bunch for my cues.

If I get hit by a truck tomorrow and move on to that big pool hall in the sky my wife will be in a mess trying to figure out my collection the way it is.

Beyond that, even just personally tracking all of it used to be no problem, then I had a head injury. No bueno.

So, I am organizing, photographing, tagging, and cataloging all of it.
