Bulletproof Recoil tips 7 month later

I have been playing Bulletproof blue soft for about 7 months now. I noticed a bit of mushrooming on it, by feeling with my fingers it is just noticeable. I took some calipers and measured in two locations, first right by the ferrule, and secondly, at it's widest spot. The difference is approximately 10 thousandths of an inch. Also, when striking the cue ball I have been leaving some pretty aggressive chalk marks on it. They were able to be cleaned up with some Aramith polish, but seemed noticeably worse than with leather tips. I have been using Master chalk so that shouldn't be a problem. Both of these issues seem to surprise me, I never thought the tip wouldn't mushroom, although it is not a great deal, it still has mushroomed a little bit. The marks on the cue ball are a bit disturbing because eventually it will scratch it up. Striking the cue ball with various shots you can hear a difference in sound, the synthetic tip gives more of a ringing sound then the standard leather tips do. I probably play 4 hours a week on my home table. I've attached a photo below, and the mushrooming can be seen easiest on the bottom side of the photo, but can be seen on top or bottom if you look carefully.
Hey Tom, could that be left over from the original shaping of that tip?? Or has it happened over time??

To tell you the truth, I am not sure one way or another, I just assume it was perfectly even when it was installed. The guy that installed it is very meticulous and professional, though. I got to believe it has happened over time, ever so slightly, but not 100% sure. Also, I am going to start playing with a leather tip at home and see how the cue ball looks after some play with the leather tip. The scuffs that were left on the cue ball were more prominent than I would expect from any tip, except for hard abrasive breaking tips.

They can leave a mark. I make sure to wipe my cb off when it starts holding chalk and junk like that. Gives me a chance to see if my tip is making solid contact with the CB or if I'm getting half tip or some other % unintentionally. I like to see that nice round blue spot.😉 Unless I'm way out there on the ball.

I've had the same tip on for 20-25 hrs of play now, and I've noticed the same thing. Only when I use Master, though. At home I use Taom V10, and it doesn't do the same thing.

I think if you chalk less often the scuff will go away, it's a hard habit to break after being taught to chalk up every shot, these tips hold chalk better than a leather tip.

Yeah, I reckon that's true. You're right that it's hard not to, though. Swiping my chalk a few times is just kind of a habit now when I'm looking at the next shot.

Welcome to the club. Masters is dirty, but my drug of choice!!😉
I wash my hands mid way thru a practice session so my shafts don't get too bad.

I use a Dr. V's magnetic chalk holder so I always have it at my side, I'm 4 years into using TAOM V 10 chalk and I'm just getting used to not chalking on every shot......

I have some v10, I just might use that at home exclusively from now on.
I don't use anything else anymore I'm still on my 2nd piece of chalk after 2 years, when I 1st heard 1 piece of chalk cost $20.00 I said I would never spend that much money for 1 piece of chalk, I ordered a chalk holder and to get free shipping I needed to spend more dollars, so long story short I ended up paying $10 for it, after nearly 2 years I bought a new piece and gave the other to a team mate, I calculated that it cost me about 25 cents a month, cleaner, covers well, and no more expensive than most chalk.

I have been using these tips since January 3rd of 2025, I bought a new shaft in February and installed a Recoil tip on March 3rd, I have a table at home and practice EVERY day for at least an hour, I may have missed one or two days but no more and there are days I have been able to practice 3 hours, I practice by myself so I am hitting a lot more shots than playing a match, I premise this to give you an idea of how much this tip is being used, the pic on the right is on the new shaft, the one have used everyday since March the tip on the left I've used for 2 months, only slight wear and I don't let my tip get slick, I don't work for Bulletproof, I know people are skeptical of new things, I was too,it took me a while before I tried them, best tip I have ever owned
Here to concur. I've been using my hard recoil almost daily for about the same amount of time. Love the hit, love the consistency... and LOVE that I don't need to deal with much maintenance.

I think I mentioned it to you in another thread, but I decided to try a recoil medium to see if I could control the cue ball a bit better with it. I just got the shaft back last night with a recoil medium. Have only played with it for about an hour, but I think I am going to like the medium. It still has a good, firm hit.... but not as much energy transfer. I feel like this medium may complement my stroke immensely. I don't want to release it in league play until I've had more time with it... but loving it so far. I can safely say that I like the medium much better than the soft... still undecided how it compares to the hard. Time will tell.

Thanks for your reviews on these products! Other than the soft Recoil, I have found zero negatives with any of the Bulletproof products I have used. And my beef with the soft Recoil boils down to personal preference.... not quality or consistency of the product. Everything has been great!

Thanks for your review of the Recoil Medium tip, I'm a hard tip guy so I won't be changing but it's great to hear the quality and consistency is the same, which ever one you choose will be the right one for you !
