Pulling the trigger

"I wanna shoot! I wanna shoot. Let me shoot. Come on, let me shoot."

I know this kid. He pushes me all day, every day. And he won't shut up.

I am just now beginning to tame this wild little rascal.
You see, he doesn't care if he misses the shot, which he does more often than not.
He just wants to bang those balls and watch them fly around the table. He's hooked
on that feeling. And like a fool, I have been giving in to him.

But not any more. I will tame him.
I will ignore his wrath and take care of my business.

How old is this kid? If he is very young let him bang the balls around, young kids interested in pool instead of video games ain't a bad thing 😉

This "kid" isn't real.
He is psychological.
He is embedded in my memory and limbic reward system.
His reward is much easier, immediate, and compelling.
But it is also disappointing most often because the shots are missed.

But there is hope.
Change is possible.

There is a rhythm to everything, kid - and once you understand that , and learn it, everything in life happens a lot easier!

Most of life is a four step process- think, decide, act, then move on.

If you are smart enough: You let logic and experience guide your thinking and decision making; you then act with conviction, and then move on to the next problem with a free mind.

Final focus - the single most important aspect of sports success - no doubt. Those that possess this naturally always have a greater chance for success - those who struggle with strong final focus have to climb mountains to get there - but first they need awareness of their deficiency and devoted training to overcome and succeed at a higher level.

I have the solution to the problem! Every time this kid rushes the shot remember he lives in your grip hand. Every time it rushes a shot lay it on the rail. Grip the cue near the joint and give the hand a very solid whack striking near the buttcap of the cue. Keep up the negative reinforcement for a few weeks. Not only should you break the habit of rushing the shot, you should get a lot of action from the braver people in the pool room!

Don't be bashful. Hit hard enough to make the little peckerhead yell and scream!
