We were at Hard Times during the Truedough era and Cliff won a qualifier to get into the next tourney. I had staked him (2k) so I’m feeling good about that. He comes over to me and tells me he has a game and needs 2000. Just out of the blue like that. So I say who are you playing and what’s the game? He hems and haws and tells me about the big game he’s made and how much we could win. It almost sounded like he was reading from a script. I told him I would take a pass on this one. Later on I was told that he and his “opponent” were seen outside having a little discussion before he asked me for the money. Sweet huhBack when The DCC was at the Ex West there was a good 10 ball ring game in the bar area for $100 a man.
Cliff caught a gear and was robbing it and it finally ended.
Hooker was staking Cliff and we’re sitting around after and Gene says it’s about time he made money betting on Cliff.
So someone asked Gene what he thought he was stuck staking Cliff and Hooker says…”including the dumps?”…
Cliff did win 5500 at the next IPT tourney. It took a couple of months of haggling to get paid by Truedough but I finally got the check. This time I took the 2k off the top and split the rest with Cliff.
