Nicest Cuemakers

Mike Gulyassy has been very accessible and prompt with communication. He builds a great playing cue and delivers on time.
To me that's a winning professional relationship.

I've really only dealt with 4 cue makers and 3 of them have been great.

Paul Mottey. Ran into him one year at Sbe while he was shooting in the tourney. Watched his match, shook his hand & proceeded to tell him how I picked up one of his cues & wondered if he would take it & change the joint for me as I like ivory & not a fan of ss. He said no problem, was informative & super friendly.

Paul Fanelli. Was a great man. So much to say about him, but if you had the pleasure of meeting him, you know how awesome he was. Loved spending time with him & enjoyed hanging out in his shop.

Steve Dunkel. Amazing cuemaker. Great guy, fun to chat with, has a ton of stories & very knowledgeable. Always bothering him to do work for me & he accepts my addiction & helps me out. Will continue to support him for a long time.

I have been fortunate over the years to have had cues built by what many would consider some of the best maybe I have been fortunate that all of them listened to my thoughts and corrected me or pointed out options that were better. I have yet to have any of them be rude or unprofessional. I admit that not all of them were timely but I learned that you can't rush them and the wait is worth it.
Having said that 4 that stand out

Jerry R- When he tells you a cue will be ready it is ready and he also send you periodic updates

John Bender- Also send in process photo's and keeps you informed to progress

Steve Dunkel- Currently building me a cue and has maintained a constant communication (looking forward to completion)

Joel Hercek- Its a long wait but once he starts you are informed and Joel can take your imagination and go where you never imagined

Bill schick

Was very nice to me & my 85 year old brother when we stopped there,he gave us a tour of his shop.We shot some pool & talked about fishing.I think he was working on a rod.Nice guy

Bill Schick
Mike Webb
Laurie Franklin
John Showman
Joe Callaluca
Joe Blackburn (not sure if he makes cues, but he is great for repairing them)
Honorable mentions from limited experience: Dan Janes, Barry Szamboti

In no specific order and I purchased direct:

MasonH
Mike Bender
Kenny Murrell
Randy Mobley
Andy Gilbert
M. Tucker - Purchased one of his cues second hand and inquired about specs and he offered to make shafts if I ever needed.

I have been fortunate to be in the position to be repeat buyer with a few and would not hesitate to buy a cue from any of the folks mentioned.

Tim Padgent and Kent Davis!

My two favorite cue makers are Tim Padgent and Kent Davis, though Tim isn't making cues any more his cues always played as good as my old Burt Shrager or GinaCue. Kent Davis is making some awesome cues right now as well! I'm also a sucker for classic Schon's!

I'm currently dealing with Leon Sly and it's been a pleasure to deal with him. I can't wait to get my cue.

Dear Citizen,
I know this is a long shot as your post about Wayne Holmes is more than 10 years old. I am looking for Wayne Holmes cues for my children and nephews. I am Wayne's daughter. I remember him telling me about your visit to his home in North Carolina. Unfortunately, my dad passed in 2014. I miss him every day. I know you are fond of his work. Might you know of someone who would be willing to sell?

you may want to post you are looking for wayne holmes cues here
i hope you find one or more

I have not read through all of the posts, But I just think the world of Ernie Martinez. Such a great cue maker with a sense of humor and very humble. He is a real treasure in this little world of ours!

The Tascarellas have been an absolute joy for me to work with. Every aspect of ordering, design, process, and after sale/market work. Great communication and, of course, superlative craftsmanship.

Paul S.

reached to him if he could give me a sample and obliged. very communicative, humble and treats you like a king. while he respects what the customer would like to have, he gives his opinion and expertise on the matter especially if it's critical. it's more of a friendly chatter among friends that love the same game. we are now planning making a 3rd cue from him for me, possibly completing the 3 musketeers and possibly making a D'artagnan next year. D'artagnan will more likely be a break cue.

Jim Lee-He even pm'd me first and we went from there. Has been VERY helpful in helping me design my dream cue. He has seemed happier than me that we're building this cue. I drew up what I wanted and he told me what he could and couldnt do, and even gave me ideas on what would work and what couldnt. Gave me a great price and never jacked them up on me. We even talked on the phone for about 3 hours one night about everything but pool.

Trudy Fuller-She is unreal when you email Judd Cues about cues or help building one. She helped me a ton even though I never could afford a cue from them.

I'd recommend both anytime.
I have had the opposite experience with Jim Lee. I posted a listing for a specific cue build, looking for a reasonably priced builder to make it by a certain date. Jim replied, and all sounded good. He assured me it would be completed in 5months, in time to give to my dad for his Christmas/retirement gift. Well, the 5months passed and he still hasn't started it. After 7 months, same thing. I asked him for my deposit back as my dad had gone into I'll health and wasn't likely to be leaving the hospital. I, too had to give up the game due to my heart problems, and had no use for the cue. He said he never said it would be completed by then(I had emails showing he did), and then said he would not refund me, and also the he has a new pricing structure, and I'd have to pay an extra $300(the cue was originally quoted at $600), or forfeit the deposit. Ended up getting the cue almost a year later. It was nice, but I had no use for it and sold it to a friend for a loss. Yeah, real nice guy.

As for good guys, I'd add Jim Crouch to the list. When I took up the game again last year, I went to him for a cue. He was great to talk to, making sure to answer all my questions and just an overall nice person. It had been 15years since I was in a pool hall, and he took the time to fill me in on all the new trends and changes in gear and the game. The cue I got was both beautiful and perfectly done. Ive gotten a few more cues since then, but the Crouch is my daily player.

Not cues, but Al Kinghorn of King cases is also a very nice guy to deal with and very professional, with great communication and accurate estimates on his completion dates. I plan to buy my third case of his soon.
