I live a few minutes away from McDermott. Next time I'm in there I'll ask Jamie what and how they got involved with that. I'm sure he's got the backstory.
That would be AWESOME

Authentic Injun meets Injun arrows. Unbeatable. And then seen again in Atlantic City using a D-20 with a white and black spec irish linen wrap.

If I am not mistaken, Meucci used to add a side pot or something to some pro events....Meucci had a following...
Nascar didn't have a bonus for winning with a specific car, nor did any auto makers as far as I know. But we all know their motto was "Win in it on Sundays, sell it on Monday's".If I am not mistaken, Meucci used to add a side pot or something to some pro events.
If the person who won the tournament won using a Meucci cue, they won the bonus. (Like $500 or something)
If the person who won didn't win it with a Meucci cue, the money carried over to the next tournament he added money to and the "Meucci money" side pot would grow in size.
I'm sure some old head can chime in with more info.
That probably had something to do with professionals using them, and people in turn, wanting to use what their idols used.
I'm loving this thread!
I can see why McDermott didn't advertise that their cues were in TCOM. Nobody would want the models that one of Eddie or Vince's opponents lost with.
I liked the looks of the D series cues from that time. If I hadn't come across a used Viking at a fantastic price, my first good cue probably would have been a McDermott.
That would make sense. That’s an interesting takeit’s possible. Although technically Moselle beat Eddie in their first matchup, Grady beat Vince in their first match, and Amos beat Eddie as well. Moselle was the top guy at Chalkies, and Grady was the number one player in the world using a McDermott.
There’s also quite a few other McDermotts in the movie used by extras, but I can’t get a full view of the butt to identify exactly what D models they were. I wonder if the reason they never advertised it was because none of the McDermotts were used by main characters. The only cue that was highlighted was the “Balabushka”.
Prior to this thread, it was my understanding Joss cue were made up to look like a Balabushka. Tom cruise has a famous scene where he plays with 'Doom' and they didn't want to risk the real thing. Not a McDermott but i’m curious if anyone can identify Earl at Chalkie’s cue? My guess is it looks like it might be a Szamboti, or maybe because of the Joss connection a Bill Stroud Joss West.

Well golly gosh could it be a Scruggs?? That lower butt section looks kinda familiar.I looked at some old Huebler brochures from then before posting. Didn’t see a ring pattern like that. But uv
Clear movie stills, unclear old brochures etc…

Yes, but…. There are several Meucci designs, HOF and a few others that I’d like. I play with a casino model. Have a Mc Dermott, but don’t play with it. If they reissued the C and D series I’d probably buy 2 or 3. The current McDermott line just doesn’t look great to me. There are some I like. I posted in another thread I thought they really botched the 50th Anniversary series and I was disappointed. The rose cue is maybe my least favorite D Series. Some of that is just my preference. And Meucci has improved in the last several years IMO where McDermott has been consistently good on quality and service. But I think they could improve their designs a lot.I really wish McDermott would go back to the butt caps of that era, the standard ones since the 90s are ugly to me.
I'm oddly picky about this sort of thing, and it's a shame because McDermott has a lot of cool designs and they update their catalog more often than the other American pool companies. By contrast, Meucci has introduced pretty much nothing new since Bob retired.

I think the C-line was their best cues and next would be the D-line.I've not looked at the latest line of cues from McDermott in all honesty my favorite is still my C-18 that I've got 3 shafts for all are 13.50 mm shafts that spoiled me . Sadly there was a mishap so it now needs to be refinished and new shafts made which will happen sometime down the road .
A friend of mine retired from playing pool and gave me his one McDermott cue which it has a issue I believe the tenon maybe cracked or the ferrele is coming loose ?
Keep your eye out for a good Joss. I’ve never had one, but the ones I have hit with have all hit nice. I saw two on PoolDawg recently that were the best I had seen in forever. The ones iI bought a Meucci in November and I totally love it. It's the simple ANW-1 one in Rainbow stain, but it's still nice.
I like most of their designs to be honest, but it would be cool to see some new stuff here and there. I also want to add a Joss to my collection some day, but all of their cues with even a hint of color in the points are like 800+ dollars.
