Hey everyone,
I’m with Ledford Billiard Supply in South Carolina, and last year we had the opportunity to pick up what we think is one of, if not the rarest billiard table currently on the market. The Antique Cat's Paw (Pre-Monarch) table by Brunswick.
We put together a video documenting the story, the pickup, and what we currently know about it, but I wanted to bring it here because I know there are some serious Brunswick historians, antique table collectors, and restoration people on AZB.
Upon my original research on this table, I landed upon this forum. I saw a picture of the table on a 1971 A.E. Schmidt catalog posted by long-time user @manwon. I've also reached out to him but haven't heard back. Other than this, I have found ONE other Cat's Paw table documented online.
A few of the details we’re trying to better understand:
- The table appears to be tied to the early Brunswick / Monarch era, but the exact placement in the timeline is still unclear.
- The marking on the table reads “J M B & B Co.”
- The cabinet has what appears to be hand-carved marquetry marked “0098.”
- The leg design is noticeably different from the more commonly recognized Brunswick Monarch tables. While the Monarch tables featured the lions head, this table specifically features the paw, hence the name.
- From what we’ve been able to gather, there were only ever a handful of these specific models ever produced. The official number is still unclear, and I haven't seen any official documentation (if it even exists) to specify this.
Here's the video showcasing an in-depth look at this table:
Here’s the video if anyone wants the full context:
I’d genuinely love to hear from anyone who has seen one of these before, knows more about the Cat’s Paw history, or has insight into early Brunswick production/markings.
The table is currently valued at $150,000.
Has anyone here come across another table like this, or any old Brunswick documentation that might help place it more accurately?
-Joy
