I need to shoot in a few more fargo reporting tournaments

After I stopped playing pool in 2006 a friend talked me into coming out of retirement about a year and a half ago.
I don't play league but practice a 3 or 4 times a month.
I have played in four Fargo reporting tournaments - The first two I fell flat on my face, then the last two I took 4'th and 1'st.
The last one I beat a 547 player to take first and my Fargo rate went from 505 to 511.
My robustness is only at 28 and will take some time since I don't play on a league.
I guess I will have to shoot every Friday night tournament they have to get my rate and robustness up where it should be since they report to Fargo rate.
Most tournaments around here are not Fargo reporting. :(

What do you think your rating should be if you were established?

At this time probably around 550.
If I was playing league and shooting more than 20 hours a month who knows.
I did shoot in a partners tournament a month ago that was not fargo reporting.
It was a last pocket tournament and my partner and I tied for 1'st.
We got bumped down to the losers bracket and worked our way back.
It was getting late and the undefeated team asked if we were interested in combining 1'st & 2'nd and splitting it equally.
Since I had over an hour drive home we agreed.
I am currently looking for more tournaments in the area so I can continue to build my confidence and rateing.

Me too! I've only played in one rated tournament and did not play well at all. I have a friend who is 700 and he thinks I'm around 630. I have another friend that is a 650 and he thinks I'm slightly over 600.

I only play in a non handicap league, so I have no real frame of reference.

I know a lot of strong players who are awful at evaluating other players' skill. Make a great shot, 700+. Miss a shot, 350.

Anyone's best bet is to get a few hundred games in Fargo and let it tell you. It'll be better than just about anyone's eye test.

I absolutely agree. Some days I wonder if I'm above 450. It really doesn't matter much as I just don't play Fargo tournaments or handicapped events.

FWIW, I've never met a single person (myself included!) that didn't overestimate their own Fargo by less than 30 points. I have met people who overestimated their own Fargo by over 100 points 🤯

It's just too easy for most people to think of their best days as how they always play and it's hard to be humble and acknowledge your own shortcomings.

I base mine on the rate of the people Play against.
One of the guys I normally defeat 7/3 on a regular basis is a 520 player.
Another friend that is a 543 I usually win 3 out of 5 matches.
The problem is this is at a friends place and not fargo reported.

Shhhh! Talk like that might wise up some fish! The sharks out there depend on that kind of self-delusion!

It can cost a little bit to use this, but you and your buddies can build up some robustness with it.

Another option is to look for a spot you could run a tournament, and use Digitalpool, which will let you report the games.

With a robustness of over 700 I am not going anywhere in terms of FR. In a single rack weekly 8 ball league against 5 opponents it builds up quickly. Anyone can win or lose a single rack. To be honest I don't really care. I will take extra games on the wire. I am probably right where I belong. Getting old sucks LOL.

Mine moves very slowly with around 5K robustness. I've been playing several fargo reporting tourneys a week for the last couple of years.

Same. I've always been frustrated at how sticky FargoRate is. Feels like games in the past are weighted far too heavily. For example, I've been steadily improving and here's what my rating journey has looked like (these stats are from the app).

Current rating: 635

YearGames played that yearAverage rating for all games that yearActual rating at the end of the year
2022346597565
2023900626604
2024855631616
2025819649633

So as you can see, my actual rating has always trailed my performance over the past year by 15-30 points due to past games dragging it down.
