Tournament administration fees

Yes, in this instance I think you’re being a nit.

You can think of it that the bar puts in $4 per person and pays the TD $1. Either way the players pool is up $4 per person - great deal IMO.

Also, it’s $1 per person. Would YOU spend a night running a tournament for $1 per person? And commit to doing it every week? And you get $20 for 20 players?

My only concern would be if the TD has discretion to effect the tournament (like he’s not doing a random draw or is otherwise abusing his position).

I play in a weekly lives tournament (like a chip tournament) where the TD plays. The software assigns all the matches. I assume he gets paid or a free entry or both (and so he should). It’s cheap entertainment and someone has to run it - why should it be done for free?

If it was a higher entry event and more money to the TD, then yeah I don’t think the TD should be playing.

He’s running the tournament.. taking his time to put together a tournament for you to play In. If you don’t like it run your own tournament. Yes your being a monster nit
 
I tip the server $1 for bringing me a beer. It seems like a $1/person to run the tournament is a great deal.

These are my experiences:

Back in the 90's a ran a little 8B bar tournament, didn't get paid. The TD of the local tournament I used to (they stopped for the summer) play in around here did not get paid either. The owner of another bar in town, my favorite bar to play at, wanted me to run their weekly tournament and was offering a free meal.

On the one hand, I'm lessening the total amount of money that is being gambled collectively, especially if the game lasts all night, but on the other hand, I definitely was winner each and every time at the end.

In small local tournaments it's very common for the TD to be playing. The last local tournament I was playing in the TD didn't actually play, her husband played and helped run the tournament. I subbed for them a couple of weeks and you bet I played, and didn't get paid.

As long as it doesn't slow down or affect the management of the tournament itself...

There was nothing worse than having to wait for a TD to finish a match before he can figure out the next round… 😑
 
better to have him there and playing then to have him not want to run it it for a mere pittance of a dollar a person.

heck i have to pay 50 an hour for someone to do menial work around my yard and doesnt even have any equipment and uses my stuff.

Have a friend who recently retired from FireService after 39 years, I asked him if his Department did HERO AWARDS? Answer was no, he replied that is our job. running into Danger, Saving Lives. He was Firefighter of Year once, got a 8-/1/2 x 11 Piece of Paper Stating so, no free Lunch, Special Watch, day Off, just piece of paper.

I hope the reasoning that hes doing a job works both ways, not only to justify not paying him.

Should he be working for free? Hard to argue yes from a lot of angles...I know you won't be able to count on every Wednesday for free.

You mention $1.00/person fee. If they event goes 5-6 hours with 15-25 players.

Pay is too low, Bar or Room need to pitch in if they are making money by hosting event.

If the Tournments dont produce anything good for Bar or Room.

Stop doing.
