Pool Cue Thread Art

I’ve been building and designing fishing rods for years with various wraps and decorative designs. I’ve often wondered why thread is not used more in decorative designs on cues. Also, more cork designs?

Stupid question, but there must be a legit reason?

Would love to try and do a full wrap and then have it coated similar to what Meucci does with linen. I would imagine, could even do the wrap with linen.

Thoughts?

Gus Adams from California wrapped cues that way. I have one. Maybe people did not like the feel. Search here and you should find some examples.

I have done some searching, haven’t really found anything. Would love to hear what others have done, seen or think….

I've got a friend in Austin that is doing this. He just did a different friend's cue and it turn out really nice.

I want to do something much more elaborate. I have a black, wrapless Predator Sport 2, I may try something on. Wish I knew more about it. Time to do some research…..

My wheels have been spinning since I read that post of yours. I have to be honest, at first glance that cue did nothing for me. Knowing that its is from the 50’s blows me away the condition its in. I think that sticker is what I struggle with the most.

That wrap though could be really interesting to try something else on another blank like what JasonATX posted , maybe not that fancy,

Yeah, the Gus is not impressive as a cue in general. It is fugly. When you consider the age, condition, and some maker history, to me it is a treasure. Honestly I wish he had purchased a butt cap on it. The end of the butt looks like it was carved by a beaver. LOL!

That the wrap is pristine is remarkable. Those thin gold ribbons are delicate, and there is no detectable finish over it. Even mild use would have destroyed that wrap.

Anyway, I have a cue or three I might be willing to put into an experiment.

I’ve been asked many times, why don’t you try a full wrap on a cue?

My initial thought was to try something on like this wrapless PS2 butt I own. I would totally rock that, keep the wrapless feel but do a suttle white/blue/black full wrap on something like this.

Not sure if thread finish, like what you would turn on a rod would work or if it would need to be spray coated. I personally would want that wrapless feel/finish…….

And very very difficult to learn and wrap at that level too. You don’t learn that overnight with thread.
