Prize money?
Same as usual for the winner. But the format is changed/even more matches to qualify…
Seems they’ve opted for a bigger field, but reduced the strength, less foreigners in stage one. 52829264 millions games to qualify... Stage one has some strong Chinese input, but little else in the way of foreign competitors. Stage 2 will see some strength coming in.
Seems they’ve cut tons of costs. Cheap Xingpai phantom tables, the venue seems gutted of any comfort. They’re sat on foldable chairs, way out in the middle of Butt F nowhere…

Ruslan just beat Lo Ho Sum. Was mentally fatiguing watching them tbh… Amoroto beat a decent Shanghai player. Really not even fussed about checking in. Lots of Japanese players were hitting up my local as I was leaving, hoping they’re there tomorrow, as I have been itching to make some money back from one of them who drained my pockets last year 😂 I’ll probably try and play a few games tomorrow/see who’s about.
Really wasn’t fussed about three days of waiting around in the ass end of Pudong. But it’s been nice to help some friends and players from other areas warm up. Lot of pool to be played over this week. This is a nice time of year to socialise billiards wise in shanghai.
Might try and get in for the finals, but depends who ends up in them…

The format/event is fatiguing, so it’s more that than scheduling. Most probably said “wtf even more games to qualify… in the middle of nowhere in Pudong… on shite tables… in a gutted venue with no food and bad coffee…yeah, no thanks to that…”

well the US open recently ended and the texas open started etc. but i don't think the women had scheduling conflicts?

i can't see the top women in the brackets either? only siming and a few more. where's kristina, chezka, etc?
Not sure, I’ll ask some friends. I know some of the staff/organizing team.

Yeah, but China open used to be a premier tournament. People would make time for it, or prioritize it even. Doesn’t feel like it at all this year.

In the Siming stream they said the top 16 WPA women were seeded into the Stage2 which didn't have a bracket up yet. She didn't have enough points over the year to be in that top 16. There appears to be 39 players in the Stage 1 with (how many?) to qualify out of the 3 chances for the Stage 2 main event. A very small event.

You got to make it through 6 games per day, instead of 3, as a player in stage one this year… at least for men’s anyway, not sure about women’s. Bonkers.
930 to 930pm, 6 matches a day, in the middle of nowhere. No good food, places to rest, or food delivery options…
I was sent the rules and entry stuff a few weeks ago. Could post it up here, but it’s a F long read.

Can you imagine that? Winning five, there for 12 hours, fudging the 7…

that sounds horrible. they obviously need to rethink this event for next year.
