Advice needed

I am picking up an original early 80's Schon cue R series cue with one shaft, dash ring collars, yellow micarta ferrule, original finish, and original linen wrap. Would I be better off to sell it as is or invest $250 for having it refinished by Proficient Billiards? I am planning on selling it.
 
As said, can’t really tell without seeing the condition of the cue.

years ago, collectibles used to have higher value if they are in the original condition even if it’s not great.
Back then, a Schon R series might have not regarded as a Collectible but I think today it is, so I would let the buyer decide
 
I now have the cue in my possession. Finish is actually in good shape for a 40 year old cue. Butt and shaft roll good on my pocket lathe. Wrap and shaft need a good cleaning. Still has original dry rotted bumper.

Put a new tip on...clean the ferrule a bit...install a new bumper and sell it.
If it's not beat to hell there is no reason to refinish it.
The original finish and wrap tells a story.
 
It really depends on what you paid for it and how much you think you are going to make on it?.

IMO, the only way to get top dollar, or interest from a larger audience is to have it in pristine condition.

Maybe replace the bumper. Other than that, unless the potential buyer wants a refinished cue, list the cue honestly...as a survivor with plenty of life left.

A $250 refinish is a great way to make much more money out of it. Huge audience as collector(s). Player cues, from the R-series sit for months before they sell. This is a harder one to find though…. Once again, its all about Price and/or how much you want to make..

Yep. There are plenty of guys out there looking for an R with some miles on it in good shape.

They do indeed. The only one I remember not being overly fond of, was a CX series. If my memory serves, it felt "hollow" to me. Could have been just that particular cue. I'd only ever hit with a few Schons...Most of them felt pretty solid.
