Hi,

Just curious when you guys (Mechanic) level a table would you use a machinists level (link below) or is this to sensitive? If not what is recommended?

For an amateur installer, an 18" Starrett machinist level works fine. For a professional installer, a 12" Starrett is more ideal, as it allows you to better see peaks and valleys in the slate. I use a series of (9) 12" Starrett levels on each slate.

I'm just going to mention, you can also buy these used on ebay. I got mine for about a quarter of what they cost new. Mine was dead nuts when I got it but you can calibrate them with a square.

It could make sense to buy a new one if you were in the business of table installation but if you're only going to use it a few times a year used can be an option.

I have a couple more 12s and another 8. Just doing a little calibrating.
Only 1 of them was purchased new. Got most of them for around $100
Assembled one from parts purchased separately.

Dont buy it! 0.4(something)mm/m thats a scam. regular home depo is 0.5mm/m I use 0.01m/m for tables like 40x + more accurate then this one in amazon. Standart for 12ft pyramid table is 0.01 in one direction and 0.015 in other. Pool is 0.02mm/m and snooker is same 0.01mm/m

Here is a lucky find. Mostly thru auctions at less than $100. One cracked vile, one chipped base. These levels work well.

Picked this old beast up for free recently. Needed calibrating, but it's in fine shape otherwise. The bubble moves quite slowly, have to be patient.
It's a bit more sensitive than the Starretts I have.

Thats a pretty unusual base, I'm guessing it was made for a specific task. Nice find!!
