How Do You Explain....

So tonight at dinner I mention to Gail that I was thinking about switching from my John Davis PDF blank conversion, mit ivory joint, to my Shelby, which I have given a several month respite.

And Gail looks at me from across the dinner table with dead eyes -- you know, the kind of eyes you'll sometimes see at a poker table when your two pair have been called by trips -- and she says, I quote: " What is your problem? You have two Gina cues -- the quintessential pool cue. Why haven't you been playing with those?"

Words fail.

Not too long ago after I told my wife i was going to get [yet] another cue and told her a bit about it, she said "Do you think you will play better with it?"

Had to say "I don't think so."

Not likely a good sign when your wife knows how many and what make of cues you have and likely how much $ you paid for them. If mine knew that about my cues and shafts, it would not be good!

Didn’t your lovely wife get you those Gina cues or was it only the straight pool sessions?

You could have tested the waters by saying something like, “you know those Gina cues are too nice to use out and about. I wonder if I should use the Davis or Shelby next month when I leave town for a long weekend to play…”

No no no!!! The answer to that question is always "Absolutely!!"

My wife saw a package come and was like “what cue did you buy now?” … a p3… “don’t you already have one” ugghhh yeah but this was is natural wood and the other one is grey .. all I got was an eye roll. Lol after 30 years of marriage to an addicted pool player she’s become used to my nonsense

Yes, my experience is that many women don't understand male interest in novelty. The best course of action is not making an explanation. Maybe the 'ole "Yes, honey, that is a good way to think about it." If an explanation must be attempted here, I would suggest that the Gina cues were temporarily put aside for their own safety, given their immense actual and sentimental value and also how stupid patrons of your local pool room can be (excluding present company of course).

A friend most of the way across the country collects rifles like some collect pool cues. Shooters all, but he has quite a few of them in his safe. He has got it figured out though, He buys different variations of Remington 700's with the composite stock and stainless action and barrel. He sneaks them in the safe when she isn't home. A few weeks or months later when she notices a new rifle. "That ol' thing? I have been having it!" The same as women and dresses.

My first trip to Utah I had a new barrel machined for my rifle. Shipping time and the start of the trip were very close together so I just had the smith ship the barrel to my friend's house. His wife looked, "Now other people are shipping stuff here. I give up!"

Pool cues are like golf clubs. You can't expect one cue to work right on seven and nine foot tables or Brunswicks and Diamonds. That's my story and I am sticking to it!

Your only response should have been, "Yes Dear."
