How come people don't use cue sleeves instead of gloves

I didn't like gloves so i tried a sleeve. It's working fine for some shots and a closed bridge, but for open bridges and in some close situations it is a bit fiddly and kind of in the way so i pushed it back for quite a few shots. I'm OK with a glove with closed finger tips now, the open tip ones always slipped back so i touched the cue with my finger tips again.
I can't imagine playing without a glove now. I always had a hard time keeping my hands dry enough and the shaft nice and clean. Now i clean the shaft every couple of weeks and put some wax on the wood. Getting used to the glove was worth it.

I don't get why any serious pool player would use a sleeve.
Adding another moving part to the setup seems a bit unnecessary.

I was at the pool hall yesterday. Dude comes up and asks if I want to play. I said sure. He asked who else I was playing with, because he saw all my cues. I said I was just taking pictures, I collect, I don't really play anymore.

So he begins unpacking his equipment while saying "so you like wood"...?

"I have an old Meucci with a red dot..." He says...waiting for my reaction...but I had none.

He has with him a CF playing cue, and a CF break cue...and some kind of glove with a logo I don't recognize. He had a bunch of other gear too, bobbles for propping up his cues, some kind of chalk holder...and some other bits I mostly ignored.

He was wearing short sleeves and so was I, no sleeves involved.

So he has a look at several Joss cues including my block letter. They are wood...and I have no glove. I think he thought I was some kind of strange animal.

So, 11 racks later I lost 2. Notice I didn't say he won 2.

I have a notion he thinks there is something wrong with his glove as he seemed a bit disappointed with it.

The Crazy Redhead did show up but did not participate in the jousting. She provided background decoration and got me a Bacardi and Coke.

She did not wear a glove and was also sleeveless.

Iam not sure about sleeves and gloves. I admit I remain relatively ignorant.

I'm in the glove camp, but I get the logic of the question. I tried a sleeve a while back, borrowed one at league, and like boogieman said, it was too tight on my shaft and bunched up when I tried a longer bridge. A glove just stays out of the way for me, especially on humid nights here in Hamilton when my bridge hand starts sticking. I can see a sleeve working if you mostly play with a short, closed bridge and don't move your hand much, but for me the glove is simpler: it covers exactly where the shaft slides and nothing else. I'll stick with that unless someone makes a sleeve that actually stays put.
