Is It Safe to Have Amateurs Dismantle a Gold Crown?

It depends on your expectations. Some thoughts that come to mind: - $375 is quite a bargain for a proper setup of a Gold Crown. Have you talked to other mechanics, and if so, specifically about their experience with Gold Crown IIIs? - Are you experienced with disassembling a Gold Crown III? -...

you found 5 grand could only spend on a cue or cues ,what would the pick be ?

In order of importance: 1) a cue in the secondary market, 2) nothing from a cue maker only selling dreams.

    Cost of a pool table

Only the slates on Gold Crown I's and II's were pinned. That would have been up to ~1975/76.

    Cost of a pool table

I appreciate these discussions comparing and contrasting different brands and models but when it comes to a 9' table, a used Gold Crown is an easy choice. It's a buyers market and a good Gold Crown I can be found as cheap as almost anything else out there. So there is no point in compromising...

    Palmer cue question?

I am intrigued by personalized cues from this era and prefer Palmers with personalized foils. It means that in some way, they were special or at the very least that the player thought he/she was special. lol. In the case of vintage cues, it give them more depth as it is interesting to at least...

    Palmer cue question?

Very nice cue. During the First Catalog, a number of cues were made that while not totally custom, or one-off designs, did not exactly follow what was shown in the catalogs. Your's is one of these cues. There is a similar cue to your cue with red rings that has been posted here and there.

    WTB: O'Neil Cases

I don’t have any for sale but 2x2 O’Neil cases pop-up. Just be certain they are in fact O’Neils as many box cases are misrepresented as O’Neils.

Can someone help me ID this Palmer please???'

Values are all over the board, so even if I gave you a good faith estimate of what I feel it is worth, the market could vary by 50% in either direction. Sometimes eBay is your best option, although I've watched some good Palmers sell for less than they were worth and identical model Palmers sell...

Can someone help me ID this Palmer please???'

Your cue is a First Catalog Model 8 with an replacement butt cap. Unfortunately the butt cap is the incorrect length, shape, & material. The orignal butt caps were 7/8" long. Also, First Catalog Palmers never had bumpers. If you want to put an original butt cap on your cue, Greg Antonakos has a...

    Bump or Flaw in refinishing?

Proficient was one of the shops I often used for routine refinishing and wraps and I have to agree that Scot can be difficult. My last encounters with Scot could only be described as uncomfortable. A coup[le of years ago, I asked if he would shoot lacquer to which he said he would, but when I...
