    Is this a foul?

I think the rule isn't written as clearly as it should be. The way I've interpreted it isn't that it's only a foul if you intend to miscue. It's that certain miscues are only called fouls depending on intent. In this case, a scoop, which is treated like a miscue, is only a foul if the player...

    DAZN Sign In Problems?

Is anyone else having trouble signing into DAZN? I'm getting an error message when I try to sign in: Which then takes me to a page that says: Are other people able to login? It seems there is always some issue with DAZN -- I wish matchroom would find a new streaming service.

    Is this a foul?

This is just not true. Again, please refer to the WPA official rules of pool before posting. Under section 8.18: *Intentional* miscues are treated as unsportsmanlike, and ruled as fouls, whereas unintentional miscues are not treated that way. Intent absolutely does matter.

New break rule for European Open

I haven't been watching too closely, but it seems like it's changed how players are breaking, resulting in more scratches. Shane at least seems to be scratching a lot because of the cut break he's using, which I guess is related to this break rule.

    Is this a foul?

You keep saying it's a foul but providing no evidence. If you think it's a foul, then please provide a link to where in the official rules of pool it says this is a foul.

    Is this a foul?

I'm asking about the official rules of pool in this thread, not your personal rules though.

    Is this a foul?

No one is arguing that all fouls depend on intent. The question is specifically regarding when miscues are and are not fouls. Look at the WPA rules around miscues (section 8.18): In this rule, intent clearly matters for determining whether it is unsportsmanlike conduct, and thus a foul. Hair...

    Is this a foul?

Thank you for weighing in! That was my thinking as well. If that's the case, this would be the second high profile call that this ref has (arguably) gotten wrong in two tournaments.

    Is this a foul?

That's my question though: is a miscue in and of itself a foul? My reading of the rules is that it's not a foul, unless it's intentional. Can you point to somewhere in the rules that says that miscues are fouls?

    Is this a foul?

I think he was just digging down on the ball to get more draw action, and he accidentally hit it too low. He was on the one, so there's no way he was trying to jump over the ball that he was shooting. Which makes me think it couldn't have been intentional.

    Is this a foul?

At the 17 minute mark, Sanjin Pehlivanovic executes an unintentional scoop shot, jumping over the one ball. My understanding of the rule has always been: if it's an intentional scoop (i.e., you're trying to jump over an object ball with a scoop stroke), then that's a foul. But an unintentional...

    completely ignorant comment.

    good 9-ball break, bad luck

Disagree with this. If you make a ball, squat the CB in the middle of the table, and then the CB gets kicked into a pocket by another ball, that is an act of pure bad luck. A "good break" means doing whatever is in your control to end up with a successful break (hit the rack square to maximize...

2022 World Pool Masters (May 5-8)

I would dispute that. Filler is certainly in the conversation for best in the world right now, but there are a good number of other people who you could make a convincing case for: SVB, Albin, Fedor, and Ko to name a few.

2022 World Pool Masters (May 5-8)

I'm not really sure where to begin here, but your reasoning is just not correct. Making the pockets tighter makes it more likely that balls will be missed. But the likelihood of missing isn't the same for both players: the stronger player is less likely to miss than the weaker player. This gives...

How on earth would making the conditions more difficult favor the weaker player??

Cue ball hop on Pro Break

Hopping the cueball could have some advantages though. For example, it should make it *slightly* less likely that the cue will get kicked into a pocket. Think about it: when you break, the balls immediately start flying around the table; any of those balls could carom into the cue and kick it...

    Big announcement from Matchroom today

Ah I should have checked matchroom's rankings before posting -- looks like that was a typo in that graphic. On the site they're both listed as blue ribbon events now.
