    Poolgame: Kill the King

That wasn't what I meant, I was thinking that, for example, the 4 ball could make both the 9 and 11 on a single shot (but not the 13). But the way you suggest could be worth trying too. It could make some spectacular wins.

    Poolgame: Kill the King

Good observation. I like it. I think the key to making intentional fouls work is getting the right punishment - strong enough that they're rare, but weak enough that it's sometimes the right shot. There's a lot of flexibility in the punishment in KtK - I like the points system, and you could...

    Poolgame: Kill the King

What if you call 1 ball, but if you make it, any others you pot at the same time (that are lower than your cue ball) also stay down? I know it encourages slop, but I think the game already strongly punishes you for losing control of the 'cue' ball, so I think players would learn to be very...

    Poolgame: Kill the King

The rules look great. You've put some work into the design! Some comments: "Legal and illegal ball potting" (p.3) - This section doesn't clarify what happens if you call one ball, but sink multiple balls. Do the uncalled balls come up? Or all the pocketed balls? What if you call multiple balls...

    Poolgame: Kill the King

Yes, to decide whether it's enjoyable would depend on play-testing, and maybe peoples' level. There could be scope for trying to hook behind the 8 that might be interesting. Happy to do another test if you like. Let me know what rules.

    Poolgame: Kill the King

Yes, maybe both players could hit the 8 between the two balls until someone made a mistake, but it might not be enjoyable pool. We could play this one out with the requirement to move the opponent's ball. (Or a general rule that you had to move another ball and not the wall would also cover...

    Poolgame: Kill the King

You might end up with a long endgame, if both players are down to the king but have two or three lives. An extra assassin or something could be a good handicap, but might be too strong. Two king-balls? Lots of options, I guess.

    Poolgame: Kill the King

I'll shoot the 4, try to hide behind the 8, but leave you a shot: https://pad.chalkysticks.com/3fe33 It would be simplest to have an assassin and a secret assassin. I think that keeps the roles clear. But 'backstabber' gave me an idea: what if you could take over one ball from the other...

    Poolgame: Kill the King

Sorry for the long delay in responding. It's been a busy week. Well done on the playtesting. It sounds like you got a lot from it. The abrupt punishment for a mistake is interesting. I think in our games we'd seen that in terms of losing individual balls, but not in terms of losing the whole...

My 11 pockets your 1. From the position in the picture, I think I can use follow, medium speed, and about a 1/2-ball contact to play a 'banana' shot: https://pad.chalkysticks.com/6c486

Exciting! Let me know how it goes. Will it be original rules? My 11 banks your 1 for the corner, but misses :( https://pad.chalkysticks.com/1981c

    Poolgame: Kill the King

I do like situations in 8-ball where neither player has a decent shot on the 8 and try to play safe. It would be interesting to see how it plays out in KtK.

    Poolgame: Kill the King

No problem, just go with what's convenient. Interesting. I don't know whether it's needed or not. In theory, if the non-hitting player leaves their king safe, perhaps the other player can hit a stop shot and leave their own king in roughly the same area, while maybe banking the other king (even...
