Any videos of Dr Dave in an actual match?

Knockers gonna knock. And now they have video and cell phones. Any bad play will be used by somebody. Maybe most will see past it. But like I said I see it having all (or mostly at least) downside for the instructors. And yes, more power to those who teach and put their games on display in...

Any videos of Dr Dave in an actual match?

I mostly agree. I think the best players often are not very good at teaching-in different sports. I think there are reasons for that. Sometimes though the top player may have insights that others don't. I do think that an instructor has to have a level of skill. There's no magic formula for...

    Pool and Race

Here’s something bad from back in the day. I had occasion to meet an old Filipino boxer a while back, rest his soul. He fought out of New Orleans in the Jim Crow era. Had to go to court to be able to box against white fighters in Louisiana. He won the case and got to fight the white guys. His...

2002 US Open - Deuel vs Strickland Foul?

Just read CSI and WPA rules. Seems to me the shot is legal under both. Ambiguity is created by the caveats that a foul may occur with balls or cushions nearby. To me though, that clarification shouldn’t eliminate the rule that says you can shoot into a frozen ball. Why have a rule specifically...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

No mulligan but the 2023 rules eased up on the moving ball rules in some situations.

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

That’s a good way to describe the rules mavens that bother me. I typically call them rules mavens or rules nits. They get away from their duties on the HOA by playing league and sometimes are correct on a rule.

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

I think SJM stated it well. The other rules don’t strike people the same way. You are in the minority on that point. Most see a big difference between inadvertently touching a ball and those other rules. I know I do. I don’t think it is a great argument for your point, which has things in...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

your APA experience does not indicate the preferred American way to play pool, although I guess APA has a following.

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

Didn’t the 2023 rules of golf allow a local rule modification to stroke and distance in some situations. I admit I haven’t kept up well with the rules. And to answer your question in the other post I.e. why have cue ball only as an option— because people are going to use cue ball only rules...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

Right. And the WPA had the cue ball fouls only option (akin to local rules) in the old rules. As I said above I think they should have kept it. Leagues are going to keep using it I think.

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

Yes, but golf also has local rules and a few options. Drop zones in some situations with hazards, TIOs for pro events. The tours tinker with the slow play rules. I haven’t looked in a while but I often thought that bordered on an agreement to waive rules. And the guys who bet high may modify...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

The video covers this as well, that is letting fouls slide. I think this defeats your own argument. If you want uniform rules you have to have them uniform. I also think pointing it out then not calling it is patronizing and condescending. Call the foul or don’t. And yeah one time I had a...

    Looking for a cue

Getting them from a dealer probably saves 20% or so. But you’ll have to get on the interweb.

    DCC one pocket speed-up rule

DCC says all of ball must be out of kitchen to shoot it I believe. So not inconsistent. And on the break all of cue ball must be behind the line

    DCC one pocket speed-up rule

If there are time limits there should be shot clocks. Not that I love the idea of shot clocks in 1P. The chess clock idea Bob has brought up is good. You might want to take 3 minutes looking at the shot after the break but be able to make it up with some 10 second shots elsewhere. That said...

    New Olhausen tournament model..................

If they can make a good playing table that competes on price they have an extensive distribution/dealer network right? They are an established, experienced manufacturer. How many Olhausen dealers are there compared to Diamond? I don’t know the answers to these questions but I’m saying I am all...

New WPA Official Rules of Pool … Learn About All the Changes

I have not seen the arguments you are talking about with cueball fouls only. I agree many players have mistaken ideas of what the rules are, but I would expect many more problems with all ball fouls in CSI/ BCAPL situations with all balls.
