    WTB: 3/8-10 Sneaky Pete

I've been looking for a decent wrapless plain jane sneaky pete with no fancy ringwork or joint with a 3/8-10 joint but haven't had any luck. Seems like pretty much every true sneaky out there has the 5/16-18 or 5/16-14 joint. Does anyone have one used or can point me in the right direction to...

How Are Shaft Blanks Cut From Trees?

You are correct in saying that grain runout can be a problem, but it is not caused by using flatsawn lumber, it is caused by selecting boards that were cheaply milled. Flatsawn lumber can be milled with the growth of tree just as quartersawn can be (There is quartersawn lumber out there with...

How Are Shaft Blanks Cut From Trees?

Suppliers who sell quartersawn material may carrier a bit higher grade of material because they are probably more particular, but if you have the chance to sort it out yourself, then you can pick the good stuff no matter what they've got.

How Are Shaft Blanks Cut From Trees?

Whether a shaft came from a flatsawn, quartersawn, rift cut, face cut, or any other type of miling makes no difference once the shaft has been turned round. Although it will make a difference to furniture makers and other woodworkers. Scott

    Ivory Ferrules

Wow! Walked smack into that one... I wonder if you could have come up with a nastier way to say some of that stuff if you'd have sat around and thought about it for a while. Scott

    Wood Lathe

I'm about in the same boat as you are but I've recently acquired some equipment that will help me take the next step. From the research I've done, a wood lathe would be handy but not necessary. It may help you do some experimenting in the beginning but may become unnecessary as you get more...

I've also talked to a cue maker who puts custom made stickers under the finish and it looks really good. Scott

Bought a Metal lathe, what next???

Cuesavvy, Spindle bore is just a hair over 1 3/8 inches. This will be my only machine for now. I've also got a cheap HF wood lathe I can use for sanding or other stuff. If this works out, maybe I'll pick up more, but I think my money will go to accessories I need for this one first. Scott

    Alert!, Another Ebay scam...

Being a web programmer, I can assure you that there is nothing that ebay can do to prevent me from copying an ad if I decide that is what I want to do. They can, however make it more difficult, and that could easily cut down on theft, considering most criminals aren't exactly brilliant. Scott

Bought a Metal lathe, what next???

Ok, Just found this forum last night and haven't had much time to look around, but thought I'd ask a couple quick questions that I probably should have just searched for. I bought a Atlas/Clausing 5320 12X42 Metal lathe a month or two ago and need to get it geared up for making a cue. I'm...
