I was an early adopter of template racks and I agree. The only fair way is an impartial ref or rack your own. The templates are "perfect" but most of them have issues. They also make the game too predictable. A wing ball should go on 9B, but not if you hit it 1.5mph.

It depends. If you're playing league 8 ball with a shitty triangle and opponent racks, you better be carrying something that will smack em hard. If you're playing 9B off a template you could make the wing ball if you hit them with a q-tip.

It's really similar to English black ball. The ruleset actually speeds up the game. 30 minute matches race to 6. 30 second shot clock and at the 15 minute mark it becomes 15 second. I'm not an 8B watcher but this format is light years above anything else. Makes for a really entertaining watch.

Use a kamui gator grip (or the $12 knock off type) and roll it on the phenolic to rough it up a bit. V10 (or other chalk) will stick better after that.
