Are bar tables hurting the game

I have to look back 55 years when I started playing on a bar box in NY. Quarter a beer, Quarter a game, loser buys next round. Yeah buckets and almost no shelf. Pretty soon I was having a night out for a dollar investment plus gas. Because during the week after work I started dropping in at the...

    Best home table?

Jtompilot, your brother in law? For God's sake tell your dopey sister she can pick out the color.

    Best home table?

Why does it have to be new? Years ago I bought a "used" GC 4. Mechanic put on new 860, tuned it up and the freakin' table was beautiful, still is. Cost less than a 8 foot Legacy.

Should we start a petition to change the 5 ball back to orange again?

The "Fatboy says the five ball is orange" is step one. Worn at major events, SBE etc. it would be a secret handshake type thing among AZ Billiard inmates. Worn at a APA 8 Ball night no one would have a clue. Thus the building of AZ and increased awareness of pool beyond a bar night. If the...

Should we start a petition to change the 5 ball back to orange again?

Fatboy, of course it's a good idea and I'll even buy one. Although as the brilliant mind behind your next money making endeavor I should get the first one free. I really look forward to an entire set of major league babes showcasing Fatboy five ball is orange cropped tee shirts. And since you...

Should we start a petition to change the 5 ball back to orange again?

The orange five ball thread is still alive. Back in ancient times, before HD television, the excuse was to make balls an ugly color to stand out on your TV. But now you have HD TV in even low rent Motel 6 rooms. Along the way ball manufacturers saw a way to sell more sets so they came up with...

    Bridge/Crutch Question

I'm a geezer and tend to relive my youth. Two tables in the basement. A GC IV with two bridges, both with a Moosehead. Then a Valley bar box with a brass head bridge hanging on the wall. That heavy brass head bridge reminds me of Joe's Last Chance Saloon in NY where I spent the disreputable part...

    Cases: Whitten vs. JB

Maybe ten years ago I was shopping for a real nice leather case at Super Billiards Expo. JB was an absolute arrogant snot. Whitten family were both nice and helpful. Guess where I spent my money.

    Tale of two tables

I don't have the original cushions, I'd like the Penguins cut to size. I'll talk to the local mechanic about the GC and see what he says about working on the Valley. The thing with these two tables is to bring back what I played on sixty years ago. Plus I have buddies that can't see nine feet...

    Tale of two tables

I have two tables, due to a dishwasher leak upstairs my Gold Crown IV could use the Simonis replaced with a table tune up. No problem there. My other table is a Valley 88 with a crap job done on the Simonis and Penguin cushions which play fine but has 4.5 pockets on all six holes. I really...

    Cues with bigger handle diameter

I'm a geezer but I like the modern thin butt build. My two Bob Frey's fit perfectly. Predator has three butt sizes, I only shop for their thin.

Any player still use Schon cues?

An older STL 9 with a IV shaft. And yeah, I'm a geezer, you got a problem with that?

Old Pool Teaching Videos VHS!! Need info.

I have a bunch of tapes and CD's by various players/instructors and the drills from Bert are the best overall. I laugh at his abundant enthusiasm when on a roll but the drills are perfect.

What's the difference between a spectator chair and a regular bar or kitchen stool?

I have a Legacy brand spectator chair seat hight 26.5" and a matching spectator bench seat hight 24" The bench is very practical, it holds a couple of sets of balls, cleaning equipment, chalk, soft cue cases etc. There's always a couple of guys on the bench jabbering away. I also have tall...

    Pool cue gift!

A very nice idea but an experienced player does not need someone to pick out a cue for them. A gift certificate from Seyberts, a sponsor here would be most thoughtful.

    Converting to LED lights

As a geezer maybe ten years ago I couldn't see the six ball edge on my green cloth. I went to Tournament Blue. Next were lights. I found the dimmer lighting more of an eye strain than bright LED. Now using LED bulbs in my lights and I hope someday to move to big ass panels.

    Purple Five Ball Question

I have two tables in my basement and will never, ever buy a set of those fugly balls. And I will not play anywhere where those pathetic abominations are used. Petition with your wallet, it's more effective than signing a piece of paper.
