Why is everything handicapped in the US or how to improve as a B-ish (or 525-ish) player?

So, back-to-topic, I ran into the local APA league operator and she said there is no Master Division right now, but they got other inquiries and are looking into it. If it happens, it would be very most likely on small tables. Which is the other big "seriously?" for me here in the US.

Why is everything handicapped in the US or how to improve as a B-ish (or 525-ish) player?

Somebody said before I am arguing both ways. In a way, split into divisions by skill level is another way of handicapping. Just creating a level playing field for an event, not just a match. As mentioned by another poster before, those division can be and have to be attractive for each tier. As...

Why is everything handicapped in the US or how to improve as a B-ish (or 525-ish) player?

@hang-the-9 said it earlier: If there would be the right setups, divisions would attract different skills. Weaker players would be able to compete even with better chances to win as well.

I would disagree. With both of you. Even if they are strict with table time, 1 hour practice and 2 games garanteed, it's easy to get at least 3+ hours table time. Not even talking about the good places leaving the tables open. I also don't.like to gamble that much. I am okay with playing even...

Why is everything handicapped in the US or how to improve as a B-ish (or 525-ish) player?

Oh, I get the reason why there are handicaps. I just want to compete even as well. The other part of my initial post I was wondering why there is no wide system across the US to compete even on several levels. Like having A/B/C/D divisions, e.g. where top 8 finishers of a C-Division district...

Why is everything handicapped in the US or how to improve as a B-ish (or 525-ish) player?

Putting in more time is always required to get even better, I agree. I am not looking for a shortcut. But from past experience I always feel better after loosing to a better player in an open race compared to after not beating a weaker player because of the handicap :-). The first is motivating...

Thanks for the "master" pointer. Seems like no 5-minute-search to find out where a master division would play around. Guess I would have to talk to somebody. Still something not offered everywhere?

Why is everything handicapped in the US or how to improve as a B-ish (or 525-ish) player?

2-fold question, but for me personally: I am a B and I am not turning Pro anytime soon. I have a wife and a job during the day. But I would love to improve my game in competition. I am just outside of the city limits of NYC, so, would have quite a few places within an hour to go to. But...

    Weight bolts question

It's a very annoying topic. I wanted to convert 3 older, cheaper cues to a breaker, matching my player. All 3 had different bolts. If you shop online they all list bolts by brand without specs. Of course nobody had bolts for a JJ or aska. Adding insult to injury, they all have different space...

Has Europe Passed Asia at Pool?

In Germany you need at least 4 Players to compete in 8 games. I think there are around 12 teams in each league. Not sure how they incorporated 10 Ball since I left. The top tier Bundesliga has top players on their own, but also attracts players like Niels Feien to be signed up and play a...

Has Europe Passed Asia at Pool?

Took me a while to register, but wanted to add a few words. I moved to the NYC from Germany 15+ years ago and was already playing pool in Germany. What struck me here the most was that almost every event you go to is handicapped; outside of some Open/Pro tournaments. Raxx and Steinway's had...

    Break Cue Features and Justification

a cheaper rabbit hole to get into, compared to buying "special" break cues, would be buying a spare break shaft and convert an old player. Or cheap cue with similar weight distribution than your player. jjcue.com has them on sales for $35 with several different joints. For the price of some...

    Question for an admin

Not sure where to put this. I registered 2 users, as it took a while to get approved and I wasn't sure what's happening. So, 1 got approved and 1 got denied. I would like to use the denied username, but can't change the approved one as the username already exists. What would be the easiest...
