Asked Dennis Searing to build a shaft for my Gus so I could leave the two originals alone. What I recieved was nothing short of spectacular. He used the same original phenolic and materials Gus used so it would match exact. Since he didnt have the butt, he made the pilot just about a thousandth...

Not true... Just the opposite. Any competent maker can do flat bottom, hand knifed (or other) sharp tipped points that most if not all trained eyes COULDN'T be able to tell the difference...

You might want to consider creating your cylinders with a taper so when showing the cue from the straight on side view the cue looks more realistic.... As a little visual slight of hand you might be able to get your virtual camera angle setup to make it apear as though the cue is tapered like I...

Though I dont use one, jump cues arent going away just for the fact that there's too much money to be made... As for tight racks, maybe standard racks should be used and you shouldn't be allowed to study the rack accept from where you're breaking. No binoculars!..LOL... Youd have to trust your...

The cue is spectacular in every respect. Good makers have an innate ability to not only know what attention to detail is but also how to acheive and then execute it. Though I know Shelby will always be learning, he was, among many other things I'm sure, born to build cues.

At least one exsits. I think it was Pete that told me the story of a cue George made for someone that insisted the full splice cue to stay in tact but still have an indexed ring above the wrap. George built a two piece split ring where the seams were undetectable. That said the glitter bands...

If there's a positive from all this it'd be that we're prabably not going to be seeing a similar issue in the near future. Hind sight's 20/20 and in this case that vision will be stuck in many a mind moving forward.....

I don't know a lot about Steve's work but these shaft pilot tongues look very similar to those I've seen on a cue or two of his...

A friend had one of those too. I didn't like it much though. We we're also members of our local Moose Club and they had an eight sided bumper pool table. We only went there twice a month for their walleye fish fry's and I would only hit them around every so often.
