Billiards game in the Keys leads to man being attacked with pipe wrench

Then you know some of the places. There was little law in the 70s. That's why we would drive a few hundred miles to go there. There was a lot of money floating around. You could beat a guy for a few hundred or even a few thousand and they didn't care. You had to stay away from Hector though...

Billiards game in the Keys leads to man being attacked with pipe wrench

In the 70s I used to play in key West a lot. There was a lot of action down there in those days. You had to be careful of locals though. They often carried guns and always knives. I remember playing in the Boat bar one night. The guy I was playing looked like a pirate and was wearing a sword...

Great quote that lots of players need to read in an effort to speed up the game.

That's an interesting way to look at it. I remember watching Mike Carella play a lot. If he got way behind in the game of one pocket he would take any kind of flyer just to get the game over with. Often ended up winning I should add, he was a great player. The next game he is liable to win in...

    Danny D's cue(s).......??

Years ago Danny's favorite cue was a Gina cue. He and Ernie were good friends and Danny even sold his cues in the beginning when Ernie was just starting out. I ordered a Gina cue through Danny. The Szamboti somebody mentioned has kind of a funny story with it. Danny used to play with a fat shaft...

    Non-Gambling Pool Players

Most of the time when people say nobody here wants to gamble, what they mean is there's no suckers because they actually want to lock. They themselves want to gamble least of all.

It's the Indian not the arrow.....and what I learned

It's funny how it came about. Jose was banging balls around on the front table trying to make games. He finally made a game and the guy says, "But you have to play with that stick". Jose had been playing for like an hour with it and agreed.

Insuring Outrageous Pool Cues-Farmers won't cover them....

I had a Richard Black stolen from my car. I had to get a letter from Black attesting to its value before they would pay for it. They did pay but I also had a money bag with like two thousand and they would only pay a flat amount of five hundred.

It's the Indian not the arrow.....and what I learned

Truth is all things equal the person with better equipment would have an advantage. I saw Parica lose a thousand in a set and one of the stipulations was he had to play with a house cue. When it was over he offered the guy an even bigger spot but he could use his own cue. Needless to say he...

Great quote that lots of players need to read in an effort to speed up the game.

Buddy Hall would disagree. I knew him when he was young. He even walked around the table slow. I actually agree with playing faster if you are an advanced player. When you are in stroke and moving around the table we'll, as soon as you put your hand down you are lined up so we'll you can just...

I think the biggest factor is the rack. Runs often end with the break shot and the rack not opening or balls freezing up. On his table if two balls even touch they bounce apart. The rack opens effortlessly. Super clean balls can touch a rail and slide in. As you said, no skids. He is an...

    DiLiberto face book

There are a few new postings on Danny Ds. facebook. It looks like he's probably in a nursing facility again and it doesn't look too good. I think that's probably his daughter there with him and he talks a little bit he's on camera.

Stories about the first time talent was recognized?

This is an easy question for me, Dennis hatch. His father had him on the road and they came into a pool room where I was and his father Greg made a game with me giving Dennis the seven ball. Dennis was probably about 13. So I gave him the seven but not for very long and I adjusted to the eight...

    Humidity in Florida

That's true but not in every situation. I used to play in a pool room in Miami called the Congress you would probably been at one time or another. And it would actually be different in different parts of the room. The tables over by the door that led to the outside they would actually change in...

Before Valleys and Gold Crowns ….

One of the things I remember most about those are bar tables, they were not custom cue stick friendly. They had big metal corners sharp edges you can really wreck your cue on those tables.

Before Valleys and Gold Crowns ….

Mostly older model Brunswick as well as AMF's. For tables you ran into a lot of Fisher tables and if I remember right I think they were called Irving Kay. Some of those bar tables were pretty bad. Although when I played primarily in bars I didn't really care the worst the table the better...
