Seniors One Pocket Classic at Bogies

Nick made some uncharacteristic errors and got a couple brutal rolls. Neither player was at the top of their game and will have to pick it up to win this thing. There are some good players waiting in the wings.

Most memorable shot(s) you ever made

A couple years ago at California Billiards at the West Coast Swing, we got a six handed $20/2 golf game going on one of the two 6 x 12 snooker tables they have there. We play double on sellout and there were lots of hickeys and I was going for out playing behind Ed Ames. All the balls were on...

This is why we can't have nice things

The Mezz West Tour, going on it’s fourth year, is a handicapped 9/10 ball tournament held in pool rooms that always draws over 100 players. There are four tiers. The top pro tier gos to 9 games and the adjustments are based on the Fargo Ratings. A well run handicapped tournament with reasonable...

    Gabby from Houston.......

I played Gabby some nine ball sets at Five Points Bowl in the 70’s. I think I lost three sets. I was pissed I could not get him off his thumb. Turns out he almost never used a closed bridge. Was Sherrie AKA Santa Ana Rose? I know Gabby was with her for a while.

    No Passport?

Nick came to CA in the 70’s and I played him some $50 nine ball getting the wild eight. We were even after a couple hours and he quit, telling me I could still get the game, but needed to bet more $. I declined. A good guy who was not after the glory, but the $.

    Chicago player

That match lasted over 16 hours. I would not watch it myself, and I played in it. I do disagree with you about Artie’s speed. I have known RA since the last 50’s and the best one pocket player in the world did not want any when he went to Chicago without getting what he considered some...

    Chicago player

We played rotate partners pinochle at the Golden Cue outside Los Angeles in the 70’s/80’s. They always asked me to play because I was a sucker and then scream at me when I was their partner and played bad.:D No one would take me for a partner full time.

What Happened to Mezz West State Tour?

The tour is alive and well. They just had a tournament at Hard Times, Sacramento two weeks ago with 125 players, won by Vilmos. He and his wife have taken over running the tour now that Oscar and Desiree Dominguez own Hard Times in Sacramento and have turned it over to them. The website is not...

    Chicago player

When Artie was posting on onepocket.org he drove us crazy with his spelling and composition, but he got his point across. He had what so many lack, street smarts, and was even a genius in some ways. Becoming a millionaire in sports betting in Las Vegas and having them change the law because you...

    Chicago player

I played Artie twice. Once in Texas during the big tournament in Galveston a few years back, and again at Derby City the following year. Both sets were races to seven for 3k. The set in Galveston took 12 1/2 hours and we played until it ended, with Artie coming out on top. My mistake was trying...
