I am not certain of the definition of a "piloted (shaft) joint" Doesn't that mean the shaft has the mini bulge protruding from the end like/similar to the one in the pic i provided? What do they call the flat faced shaft joint with only the "metal threaded insert"? ie: no bulge at the end

Yeah. Your Avatar Frye is very nice. What does the joint look like? Not sure i have seen that design before. Hopefully someday a large collection of Doc Frye pics will be collected for everyone to enjoy. And maybe a list of present, past and original owners. Later, out !

i guess you could say i (played/stopped in for some action) in most of them but mostly NE Phila, west phila, center city(Allengers), west chester, morrisville?, a few in jersey and others. I was young so i stayed away from the toilets and bars. I also hit other states but not more than 10.
