becue/revo/cuetec carbon fiber are not the holy grail..YIKES

What people are missing with a carbon shaft, is the cue tip itself. The same cue shaft but with different tips, will play significantly different for different players. So judging how a cue plays with a tip that does not suite the player is almost pointless. Neil

    g10 as a break tip.....your thoughts please

My Jump tip is Not G10, as I have seen damage to my own cue ball from G10 break /jump tip. But the damage was from a hard breaker, Not from a jump shot. I'm with Steve, G10 is best left for other sports etc. There are hard leathers out there , and other great break tips like the White Diamond...

    Pics of cracked revo

Have you got a photo showing the whole shaft, or how far from the tip this failure occurred? One thing for absolutely sure, is the failure is not from the tip or no tip pad. It is most likely from some other damage to the cue shaft, that has caused a fracture in one of the laminate layers...

    revo question

Tips that you like on a wood shaft, may not be the tip you like on a composite shaft. It seems to me, that in general you want a grade softer tip on the composite shafts. So if you normally play with a medium tip, then go for a medium soft, to a soft tip. My suggestion is to play with what you...

Cuetec announces Carbon Fiber tentative price and....

They were made in Rotorua, New Zealand, by a company that was called Kilwell ltd. They made tube products. These were sold in a lot of countries.

Cuetec announces Carbon Fiber tentative price and....

I have been down that road of arrow makers and golf shaft makers. The requirements of making a composite shaft , that plays better than a wood shaft, can not be made with the cheaper carbon or the current weaving technology or current pulltruded technology. Yes they can be made cheap, but those...

Cuetec announces Carbon Fiber tentative price and....

Great, I would like a price from your sources for the shaft blanks please, with an 11mm tip end and a .850 inch joint blank end. Please PM me with a price for 40 blanks. It will also need to have a layer of vibration dampening material as well. PS a golf shaft and an arrow shaft do not work for...

    lathe and absolute beginner questions

Check the fibre gears first, that they are in good condition. Change the head stock oil, and the gear box oil if it had the screw cutting box. Some did not have that. Make sure if the 3 jaw chuck is on spindle, that you hold something to keep the jaws locked. The jaws have been know to come...

Question about air cooled CNC spindle

JC, the one on my wood router is the water/liquid cooled version. Very quiet operation. Just have to keep antifreeze in the water / coolant. I went overboard and got deionised water for mine, as it was available. Our normal water has chlorine in it. Mine is the 80mm spindle. Sadly, I did need to...

Revo Wipes - What's Up With Those?

Good post. The chalk residue is actually very abrasive. Over time, this chalk dust will wear the shaft surface. Keeping it clean is really important. Often wiping with a microfibre cloth/towel will get most of the contaminants off the shaft and then using the wipes to remove any oily build up...

What is inside of the REVO shaft?

Depending on the composite make up, but 0.81mm is actually quite a substantial wall section.

is there any significant difference in carbon fiber shafts

Here is the Video that Dr Dave was referring to. It is from 2009 with a then 4th generation cuttlefishcues carbon shaft with a patented cue tip system. https://youtu.be/r6xJ93F4KRg There was a lot learnt from this video and the current 5th generation was developed as a result of this testing...

    Liquid Weight Cues

When I tried some dampening systems in a cue many years ago, it did not hit the cue ball the same as a cue without the dampening system in it. I tried a cartridge with lead shot, so it emulated a dead blow hammer. And a cartridge with some tungsten rods, with some oil around them. Yes they did...

    Cue tip contact time

At the end of the video link is some very high speed clips. They have ticks above them on a what the cuest considers a good hit versus a poor or bad hit. Barry talks about the acceleration and trying to keep the cue tip in contact with the ball with the longest possible time, without pushing the...

    Cue tip contact time

I think it is because the accelerating stroke is changing the compression of the tip. So the spring of the tip is not so random. Also you can see the shaft frequency in the very high speed video. It will be interesting to look at how a carbon shaft behaves at these sort of resolution ...

    Cue tip contact time

Clearly when looking at the video evidence, I am seeing something that some of you are not. Snooker cues are typical at 9mm to 10mm tip diameter, and do have less endmass on the cue shaft. They are also mainly conical cues, so have a stiffer geometry over a regular pool cue. Traditional snooker...

    Cue tip contact time

Thanks, that sure is for me at least a very interesting video. I think it goes a long way to explaining why some like and play better with a particular cue tip.

The REVO is taking over pool

The next level in carbon composite shafts will be more expensive not cheaper. There is a better material for the composite shafts available. The down side, the material cost alone costs more than the retail price of the Predator series shafts now. These new materials dampen frequencies in the...
