    Workmanship

Workmanship covers the way a cue is made and it's combined components. It also covers badly made parts that may not be even made by the cue maker. An example is bent or not straight joint pins. If the maker uses a bent pin in the construction of the cue, that alone is bad workmanship. Some cues...

Equipment advacements in pool and snooker

Equipment advacements in pool and snooker

I invented a tip system that allows an interchangeable tip to play as well as a normal glued to the ferrule tip. I can change a tip in less than 20 seconds. I did a tip change during a match game and won. The loosing team protested and claimed I was not allowed to change my cue tip during a...

Accurate indexing on a rotary axis

A lot depends on your rotary axis as to how the fixture is going to work. For best results, you need some way of making it repeatable to the axis orientation. Then it is just a matter of making something that stays with that particular part(shaft/handle/point material etc) until finished. A photo...

Cue Zero 3 axis touch plate

Year ago, they had a piece of circuit board with a little light on it. I think it was led not sure.It had a small battery and a wire to the machine bed. So when the edge of the cutter touched the copper, it would light up. These were imperial I thought like 1/16th inch thick. They were quite...

    Kennametal tool holder and bits

There are some really nice very sharp inserts for that size holder out these days. From Kennametal, Mitsubishi, Kyocera, Sumitomo, Iscar, they all have their own take of the sharp inserts with a very positive geometry. Neil

    Subletting?

No shame JC. Sub contracting is common place in industry these days. So much so, it is rare to find companies that do the whole of the work, let alone the majority of that work by 1 employee. You fulfilled the contract and the customer is happy. You did everything right in my view. Neil

Mini cut off saw use for cue building

In their blab, they show a fibre reinforced cut off wheel, so that should be able to cut off pins etc. They also show carbide teeth saws, but not sure what the tpi of those are. Seems like a nice little unit. I don't know how well it will cut off a pin, but like anything, if you take it slow and...

Question for mach users or cnc in general

I have mine controlled by the software. So the program does the spindle speed. I like it, because in the HSMworks, you can make it slow the cutting rpm and feedrate going into a corner for example. There is always the override on the Mach3 for rpm and feed rate adjustment as well. Neil

    Cue lathe

Is the 3phase motor still available so VFD can be used? Rent a liftgate truck may be the easiest way with a pallet lift to move it to the truck. Neil

    Tiger Automatic Tip cutter

As far as I know, it was never sold in any numbers at all. When the cutter dulls, it damages the tips. I made my own variant that uses a diamond PCD wing cutter to trim the radius of tips and the diameter. It is in my albums. Some are using a router and a sharp mill cutter to trim tips with as...

    Joint Pin Sugestions

Fine pitch threads don't last in wood. The pin needs to have a very smooth surface, or else it will wear out the wood thread.

    Cutting Arvorin?

I find with plastics, the edge can't be too sharp. In saying that. a lot of inserts, don't actually have a very sharp edge, unless they are honed and ground. There are some ground sharp inserts out there.Check with a lupe, to see how sharp of an edge it actually is. With some materials, you can...

    Tapping weight bolts

Normally for holding threaded rod/ bolts/threaded things, making a split bush of that thread form works very well. It then clamps on the thread form itself, not the crests of the thread form. You could use a nut, but generally nuts are made to the loose side of the thread tolerance and often...

What can you get for $3000?

You will not get a custom cue to play like the Revo shaft does. Really your decision is , do you want a nice cue with a Revo shaft, or do you just have 3 k to buy a cue with? No wood shaft is ever going to be like a Revo shaft, and No Revo shaft is ever going to be like a wood shaft cue. If you...

    Flex Point Question

Now it can be done without piezo technology. It is actually an unintended but welcomed side effect of some new weave geometry in the cloth itself. Quite fascinating I think. Neil

    Installing Full Threaded Pins

I was reading about the pin being glues into a non taped hole and then the various responses to this. I saw an interesting situation at my work place. They have a material that requires a threaded insert to be glued into place. Previously, these have had the material tapped and a loose threaded...
