    Cue versus Butt?

By that logic, we would play with hollowed out cheap butts or maybe even disposable butts. How does the shaft help one make the ball and the butt not? Are they two distinct parts working independently during cueball contact?

    Cue versus Butt?

To me the idea that only the shaft matters is analogous to saying the engine is the only thing that matters in a performance car. Like Joey says, why would engineers spend time in wind tunnels if only the engine mattered?

The first time you remember playing?

First played around age 7 or 8, it would have been at a neighbor's house. I enjoyed it but wasn't hooked. My parents bought a table when I was 17, though I played I still wasn't hooked. At 22, I took a pool class in college and and got hooked. I started playing 4-5 nights a week. My...

Best Area in Florida for Pool

Thanks for the update. I am in Pinellas and visited there once in 2014. The tables were old and it didn't seem a players' room. Do you know if it still has a non-smoking section? And are the tables new?

    What happened to Mika

Respectfully, I don't know of any pool player who kicks as well as Efren. It might not even be close. To be fair, players jump much more now so kicking ability has diminished.

    Break Stats -- 2019 U.S. Open 8-Ball Championship, August 2019

I'm pretty sure it was. I saw Deuel use it a few times against Woodward. One attempt resulted in terrible spread that looked like a one pocket layout, and Deuel still managed to run out.

    SJM Sold on Tyler Styer

I look forward to seeing him play more. First saw him at the Intl. 9 Ball Open last fall and noticed how solid his mechanics were. I think he has the best fundamentals of any American player now.

Time to rethink jump cues again?

I'm in the camp that doesn't like them but realistic enough to know they'll stick around. They are a highlight-reel factor in the game. I notice players on adjacent tables usually tend to watch any player whether good or bad attempting to jump. And of course spectators and commentators tend...

how has pool play changed over time?

In the rotation games, I see more players using open bridges. I feel this is due to the required accuracy on tighter tables. It could also simply be more Europeans in the big tournaments who have snooker backgrounds. Either way, I do notice that difference.

    pool's greatest might-have-beens

Michael Coltrain Watched a match tonight with Coltrain playing Steve Knight from the 2000 World Championship. He was certainly a talent. Sadly I could see his shoulder shaking heavily on a few shots. He had a very pretty stroke.

    Linen Wraps in the Heat

I'll give the wax option a try. I don't leave my cue in the car so not sure where I am getting moisture buildup. Will try wiping it down during play also.
