The APA is great for bringing in new (lower level) player and getting them hooked on the game we love. Their rules ARE geared toward lower player to help them stay at the table and hopefully eventually get better. The APA has brought more new players into pool than the other leagues combined...

I believe in a balance between the 2 and this depends on table conditions. If playing on bad cloth or getting bad racks then more power. If on newer cloth and tighter racks, less power in more control.

I like the APA format. It made me play harder. If I am a better player than someone else then I have to win 6 games to their 3 or 4 or whatever the match up is. In the other league formats where you play one game against another, the better player will win most of the time in a one game race...
