Dufferin probably made more 5/16 x 14 joints than the aluminum glider joint. For the price they put together a pretty good cue. Both Cliff Thorburn (world snooker champion) and Kirk Stevens ( #4 in world snooker) played with Dufferin snooker cues.
Where is the balance point on the cue now. If it is forward it probably could be changed by putting in a larger weight bolt which would make it heavier and bring the balance point towards the rear. It could also be rewrapped and leave it unpressed which would give you a rougher feel.
I agree it is not like wood but if you are willing to take the risk it can be sanded. I believe most carbon fiber shafts are sanded to get them to that smooth surface that we like.
Use wet sandpaper, wear a mask and vacuum as sanding. The dust can be very unhealthy.
I have a customer that has asked me to make him a shaft for his HXTC13 Purex cue. The diameter of the pin is .312 and there are about 10 acme threads per inch. Does anyone have an insert that will work with this??
Thanks for all your help. I have done some sanding with good results. Using a respirator and wet sandpaper. It comes up good and the area sanded can not be seen.
Has anyone tried sanding carbon fiber?? I don't mean to reduce shaft size but just to get a small blemish out of it. I would think that it could be done with progressively finer sandpaper and using it wet. Any thoughts??
