Beginner player looking for some insight

I just watched the first rack. You shoot good enough that if you keep working at it, you should be able to run 30 very soon, no problem. And once you get to 30, 50 is not that much harder. Factors which would help determine your ceiling – what age are you, how long have you been playing pool...

Magic eraser vs black revo marks on cloth

It could be the side of the tip (with a dark edge) going in to the cloth at a high speed on the follow through of a break shot, although I always figured it was the carbon fiber shaft as well.

    How Bad I Am Nowadays

Le Total left shoulder replacement 9 years ago (I play right handed) extended my pool playing days and has allowed me to play pool pain free, I’m now 68. Figure on 3-4 months of a diligent exercise program until you can start back playing, unless it’s a right shoulder for a right handed...

Get off my lawn, Things I hate in pool today

The lack of common sense pool etiquette among many players in our weekly tournaments. Not just the newer younger players but the older players who’ve played most of their pool in bar rooms. Examples: Opponents on their cell phone. Opponents you can’t communicate with because they’re on their...

    How Bad I Am Nowadays

Awesome break, but it happens to all of us. If you accidentally leave too much angle on the 3, it complicates the otherwise simple runout.

Magic eraser vs black revo marks on cloth

I’d be curious in that photo of your cushion exactly where the black shaft marks were?

Best Advice Ever For Straight-In Shots?

Why would you look at a spot on the pocket when stroking when looking at the center of the object ball or the base of the object ball is way closer? If your theory is correct, why not just pick out a spot on the wall behind the pocket to aim at?

    Purpose Built Arena

Most important question – how many tables is this elevated arena able to hold with ample room between tables (8’ minimum) to be able to conduct numerous matches at one time? I would guess at least 4 and possibly 8, with the elevated seating built in such a way so that the arena could be...

    Shotmaker.

I think of a shotmaker more as a player who seems to successfully execute more difficult shots, but whose positioning is not as good as their ball pocketing skills, which leads to them having to face more difficult shots than if they were a better position player. Similarly, a shotmaker to me...

    8 ball rules question

Apparently not a good shot and would be loss of game, if you have agreed to the rules that you are required to call all banks. However, for the proper rules where you only have to call ball and pocket, it would indeed count no matter how it gets to the intended pocket.

    How Many AZBilliarders are Trickshooter?

Years ago I perfected the famous Miller Light commercial Steve Mizerak 6 balls in one shot trick shot, but that was about the extent of my trick shooting interest. Nowadays, when we have families with young kids in here, I’ll set up the 5 balls by the side pocket to be made in 1 shot in 3...

    American table?

Very strange how the corner caps stick out. If you are any more than a recreational player and if you have ever had the chance to play on a quality commercial table, you are going to be severely disappointed with this table. I would keep looking.

    No smoking?

If smokers realized how bad they smell when they walk back in to a no smoking poolroom after a smoke outside, maybe they’d be more likely to quit.

    Spots

They likely figure most won’t notice it’s off. We had an issue with our Simonis spots leaving black spots on the 1 ball - the ball that sits on the spot when you break. When I informed Simonis of this, they claimed they’d never heard of that issue before. We’ve since switched to Master spots...

    Johnston City, Stardust Days

Did Ray Martin not ever play in Johnston City, 14.1 or 1-pocket? He was certainly a top pro player even 60 years ago, as he’s close to 90 now. I heard he’s recently moved from Raleigh, NC back up north, where he originally comes from.

If you could build your dream room that actually has a chance to stay in business…

Some jurisdictions like our area won’t allow any alcohol to be sold/served unless a certain % of your sales are from food.

    Sad day indeed

We were blessed to have Danny visit our poolroom a number of times in the late 1990s and early 2000s, whenever he visited one of his many close friends, who lived in nearby Morganton, NC. My recollections of him as an extremely nice man, who never once bragged about his past pool...

    8 ball break weekly pot

The problem / risk of these high $ break pots from an owner’s or manager’s viewpoint is having to keep a huge amount of cash on hand on that night, and everyone knowing it.
