    the best pool cue brand?

there are probably 100 past threads- just the same Best cues?------The problem with threads like these is that you ( the OP ) should do a little research first. Start with a search of past threads and educate yourself and then come to the table with some questions- maby on a specific maker or a...

    Ivory ferrules?

increased deflection is caused when you have more weight at the tip. Therefore if you have a heavy ferrule it will cause more deflection, it does not matter if it is synthetic or ivory. - But let's look at the "reason " for ferrules- they were originally used to keep the end of the shaft from...

    Lets talk about Butts

    - but wouldnt it be better still to add weight by things like structural points that would also give you a slow increase in the weight as you go farther back on the cue, the points would also add the the structural stability of the wood? It would seem to me that adding concentrations of weight...

    Lets talk about Butts

looking for some advice and explanation -I would love to get a few of the great cuemakers that are on AZ to give me their views on the playing viability of a one piece butt. - -I would also welcome some of the math and physics majors response as well:smile:

    Lets talk about Butts

    - - -I agree the weight distrubution on a one piece would suck , that's why I thought adding weight appropriately would be beneficial- so when you say alot of cue makers core the wood are you saying they start with a one piece butt and sleeve other wood over the core. -- -as for cutting points...

    Lets talk about Butts

I can understand aestetics- but if they hurt the playability of the cue - is it worth it.:( - -Stability- I can agree - only if the pieces are smehow inter-woven together, but from what I understand most custom cues are joined either with a flat face joint or with a simple(male /female union)-...

    Lets talk about Butts

I've been thinking about what makes up "the ultimate" playing cue, Now this is all my theory- so I could be all wrong, but I want to get other opinions. It seems to me that you would want a cue that resonates like it was one piece of wood. But in the real world, hauling around a one piece cue...

    Private Pool Room/Social Clubs?

I love the idea This is also an idea that I have had. Myself and a couple of friends thought about putting up 30-40k each and making a small(4 table) room. We felt that it would have to be built out very elegantly and comfortable. We wanted sofas, lounge chairs, fireplace, poker table, small...

What cuemaker makes the best shafts?

deeper thoughts This thread should ask a question like: -The best shafts come from wood that is : *cut at what time of year * from what forests around the world *processed how?- kiln or air dried - - We all know that every high end cue maker is looking for clean, tight straight grained wood...

    Areas of Instruction Lacking

    - I fully support what you are trying to do, I believe that the more info that is out there, available to everyone, the better our sport will become.

    Areas of Instruction Lacking

    - -But the information should not be so proprietary that it is only in the schools, I think it should be in books also so that people that can't get to the schools because of location of finances or other reasons, can also get information about our sport:smile:

    Areas of Instruction Lacking

how to choose your equipment -cues- what is important-weight distribution, shaft wood, tips- all different for diff. styles of play- cosmetic vs structural differences -balls- how differently they can play esp. with mismatched sets -tables- size, assembely, pocket size, rubber -lights-how many...

Soft tips - What is the best brand?

Another thought to consider is that the glassy nature of the tip could be comming from the polish that the house uses to clean the balls- I've seen it happen before!

    Changing Shafts During a Match

Could be a unglued tip, the taper or tip may be different on his different shafts- depending on his style of play( short bunting for straight pool versus long strokes for 9ball). Also one shaft may be a low deflection shaft or one of his shafts may be weighted heavy at the ferrule for masse'. If...

Which cuemakers can make knifed-in 8 pt cues

    - - No, that is not what I'm refering to- nowhere in this thread do I discuss the forearm and handle assembly, I am just only talking about how the points are put in the cue. The big difference being inlaid vs (deep "V"/full splice/ "v"groove/structural points/ knifed/ etc.) you will see all...

Which cuemakers can make knifed-in 8 pt cues

The reason I said that I might be wrong is that I did not go over every one of his cues that I walked by. Everything that I did look at was inlaid, so I just assumed (wrongly) that inlays were all that he did. Sorry:o
