It would be about 100 dollars or so cheaper because it's really not that much difference in lumber to build for 7 cues or 3 cues. Purple Heart wouldn't be too bad for trim. Hope that answers your question.

Contact cement is what is usually used. If you can find some contact cement made by 3M......hope that helps

I use to have the same issue with maple then I met a fellow that told me about dyes. The particles in dye is a lot smaller than in oil stains or gel so, it will penetrate much better. Give dye a try! Hope that helps.
