    New Instructor Certification Class

I will be conducting a new PBIA instructor certification class in Charlotte NC September 16-18. This class will be for NEW Instructor certification, as well as for instructor upgrades for current eligible instructors. If you ever thought of becoming a professional instructor, this will be a...

Instructors - How Do I Overcome This?

Perhaps your subconscious is trying to tell you something. Maybe your picking up on the fact that your aim, alignment, or something isn't quite right. Stand up, re-set and don't shoot until you just know it's right. Steve

    Warm up strokes

The primary purpose of warm up strokes is to make sure your cue is moving straight, and to verify where the tip is going to make contact. I recommend slow and controlled warm ups to accomplish these goals. You can get a feel for your stroke speed before you even get down on the shot. Steve

    Elbow drop or not?

Rick, Here's a simple answer to your simple question. PBIA instructors serve in various areas in support of the organization. None of those are for life! Can we put an end to this discussion now? As Randy so eloquently put it, since you are not part of the organization,, what goes on...

    alignment after the shot

All PBIA Master instructors have a brief biography posted on the PBIA site playbetterbilliards.com. All you had to do was look. There was nothing to the exchange between Fran and myself, other than a public exchange of ideas. I respect her, and I think the reverse is true. That doesn't mean...

    alignment after the shot

I've been a PBIA/BCA instructor for 15 years, advanced for 12, and just decided to apply for master upgrade last year. The PBIA instructor committee approves all upgrades. RandyG and Scott filed the original recommendations. And just in case, my shoe size is 11, I part my hair on the left...

    alignment after the shot

Fran. I agree that a consistent stance is important, But equally important are a consistent grip, bridge and stroke. One can be perfect, but if the others are always changing, nothing is gained. Good shooting requires consistency in ALL the fundamentals. I don't think stance is any more or less...

    alignment after the shot

I don't think anyone advocates slamming your hand into your chest. But ending up with your hand touching your chest helps give a consistent stopping point for a completed stroke. Steve

    Elbow drop or not?

Good points, Fran. That is why having an effective pendulum stroke, being able to get into the proper set position is critical. Tip within 1/2 inch of the cue ball, hand directly below the elbow. If the bridge length varies, the grip position on the cue must also adjust accordingly to keep the...

    Elbow drop or not?

I'm pretty sure you have already had that question answered, but choose to ignore the explanation. Steve

    Elbow drop or not?

I lost the elbow drop about 15 years ago, and saw a significant improvement in my game. And I don't have to think about timing, if I don't drop it. Simple, effective, and consistent. What more do you need? Steve

Ignorant: Having limited knowledge of a particular subject. Not meant as an insult. Just my opinion based on your post. Steve

anyone have experience with this device??

ENGLISH. Your repeated use of the term cookie cutter is not only offensive, but ignorant. I have taught SPF to hundreds of students, and even when applied correctly, each of them has a different looking stroke. What we do is apply tried and true principles that our students incorporate into...

    Jumping

The dart stroke jump seems easier to perform, but being comfortable with either method is a definite advantage. Steve

Need help with stroke (body alignment)

@pooltchr: Gripping too tight, I think that's a very common issue? I keep telling myself to hold the cue as lightly as possible, but often I forget about it, especially when focusing too much on the object ball. Does it still look like that in the second batch of videos? Grip looks much better...

Need help with stroke (body alignment)

I think Fran hit on the two potential problems. Another option for your stance would to be to flex your forward leg, but kick the rear foot straight back. That is another way to bring your head down to the shot. From the rear view, it appears you may be tightening your grip a bit on your final...

    Tip rising problem

Without watching you shoot, my first guess would be an elbow drop. When you drop your elbow, the butt of the cue goes down, causing the other end of the cue to move up like a see-saw. Steve
