    Pool Ball Collecting.

This is my second snooker table over the decades and i’ve never noticed a difference between 2 1/8 and 2/4 balls on the rails. Perhaps there is on some brands but not Dufferin or National. I had my Snooker pockets cut at 3 3/8 Instead of 3 1/ 2 inch. I prefer a slightly narrower pocket than...

    Pool Ball Collecting.

Had to laugh. I mostly play made up games on my 12 x 6 Snooker table. I often play convoluted Games (too complicated to get into) With 4 sets of American balls. Feels like playing on a bar box until a few balls get pocketed.

    set of 9 balls only

There would be low demand in Canada. ‘Pool’ where I live means 99% 8 ball. 9 ball may be more popular in the USA than 8 ball but I can go a year and never play a game of 9 ball be it at someone’s home, a sports bar, pool hall, etc. 9 ball here is played by a couple affiliated leagues but...

When did getting low on the cue happen?

True and this is where a lot of the ‘must dos’ break down. The best billiard player in the world currently is Judd Trump. He’s a studious player but has a quirky last second twist to his cue to the side when he hits the cueball. The best before him was Ronnie OSullivan who never hits centre ball...

    Young People and Pool

90% of the subscribers to Reddit Billiards and Reddit Snooker are likely under 35. On our provincial and city Facebook billiard pages likely 75% under 35. However, I doubt if more than 10 or so players Of the 150 or so I play with could name a pool player... and most of that ten would name...

    How to Increase Play/All Levels

I’m not sure who this generic pro pool player is. He isn’t a multi million dollar sports star and a member of some Union that dictates his appearances. He might want to pick up a thousand dollars or just enjoy the experience....or not. Most pro Snooker players make as much on weekends in...

When did getting low on the cue happen?

Snooker players use the same stance if a 2 foot tap in or 12 foot shot. Usually also the same cue action. I’m not studying or looking at the table when down on a shot. I’ve decided how to hit the cue ball and where to hit the object ball beforehand. When down on the shot it’s robotic...

    The Toughest Shot in Billiards

True. That’s the same with straight in shots. Not money at stake but ego and confidence. Volumes have been written with pseudo science explanations why straight in shots ‘are more difficult than cut shots’. My observation over decades is players tighten up and don’t have an excuse to miss a...

    What's in your case?

Same here. My cue has often been left in my car in Canadian summers at plus 30c and winters at minus 30c. Never an issue. I’m always surprised how many have personal experience with warping a cue. My Suspicion is that it’s ‘someone said that someone said that....’.

When did getting low on the cue happen?

Not hard to do when no American has ever cracked the top 100 in ranking. And, it’s unlikely he played snooker against the best American snooker players.

When did getting low on the cue happen?

Similar. Zero Issues. I’ve been the same weight since my early 20’s. Fitness always number one priority in life. Fortunately top Snooker players like Selby, OSullivan , Robertson, Potts, etc are big time into health and fitness. Selby will eat an orange and take a brisk walk if a an hour...

When did getting low on the cue happen?

‘Turn of the century’ Made me chuckle. I know I’m old when that automatically means 1900 and not 2000. My old British grandmother would talk about ‘the War’...it meant WW1. When my mother mentioned ‘the War’ it was WW2.

    New Years Resolution

Do 67 push-ups each day on and after on my 67th birthday. I know I can do it but wonder at what age the trend will end. Age 70 or so most likely. This morning, like most mornings, I did my 66 waiting for the toast to pop. No meds or health issues but my resolution is keep the vehicles in...

    What's in your case?

My Barracuda snooker cue and a cube of Master chalk. If I cycle to play, then a spare bicycle key. If playing at the Legion or Community Centre then a ‘Cup of Soup’ package on cold days. If at the Pool Hall it’s $5 so I bring $10 So enough to have a coffee and leave a tip.

When did getting low on the cue happen?

Snooker: Almost a century apart. World’s best billiard player ‘back then’ and world’s best male and female billiard players today. It’s the only way I’ve ever played for 52 years.

    Young People and Pool

Pool is more popular than ever. China even has dedicated billiard programs and a Snooker school. Chinese 8 ball gets about 60 million viewers, second only to Snooker. Here in North America, I know a lot of people with home tables. I didn’t even know the ‘concept’ of a home table when I was a...

    Best (budget-orientated) Worsted Felt

What were these items that you ordered Directly from China multiple times? Every Chinese supplier I deal with is obsessed with their reputation and it is the most important variable for them. They will often make no profit just to keep clientele. They know the manufacturers and quality...

What carpet should i put under my table

Depends where you live. Where in the house? I live in a Dry climate and near zero chance of moisture issues or Basement flooding. If not a basement, is noise an issue? Non carpet is noisier especially above other rooms or neighbours. I like carpet. Cozy on the feet. However, if cost is an...

    Best (budget-orientated) Worsted Felt

I know two guys who got their cloth on eBay from a Chinese supplier. About half the price and free shipping. Good quality. One was a nice grey colour. I never order anything ‘new’ in from the USA. Most new items aren’t made there and it’s just a reseller of Asian goods. It’s similar with...

    NEED HELP SHOOTING "JACKED UP"

Near the rail. Trying to pot the ball and hold the cue ball. Two tasks. There’s good advice in the posts above. I’d jack the cue up, keep my chin on it and Strike down for backspin. I’d practice by moving the object closer to the cueball. Make a fun game of it trying to sink a ball in all...
