Using the mechanical bridge - should it be banned?

Well, again, people of different physiques have certain advantages or disadvantages in a variety of different sports. I don't see why pool should be any different. Suppose someone has eyesight that is only correctable to say, 20/60. Should that person's opponents have to wear glasses that...

There would also be a lot less gambling going on. If you just want to play odds, how fun is that? It's like slot machines vs. craps. Sure, the odds are a lot better with slot machines - often with a 98% payout (good luck getting that at the craps table), but christ - who wants to sit there...

Using the mechanical bridge - should it be banned?

If I just wanted to listen to people ***** and moan, we could have a "tastes great, less filling" argument. I didn't expect the firestorm of what basically amounts to "**** you!" - I was hoping for some real discussion on the whys or why nots. Oh well.

Using the mechanical bridge - should it be banned?

I agree. I've played in pool halls that don't allow those and the tables are better off for it.

first to 3 in a row for $50

Nope - not me. Mr. Murphy has nothing on me. If I bet, I lose. It's that simple (:

Using the mechanical bridge - should it be banned?

Now this is an interesting observation. Can you expand on that?

or perhaps: 3). Exactly what I stated in the OP. Or is that simply not in the realm of possibility for you? Jezuz.

Using the mechanical bridge - should it be banned?

No, not really. I don't think they should be allowed in snooker either. I was just trying to simplify the conversation.

Using the mechanical bridge - should it be banned?

I made no comment at all on the materials or design of one's cue. FWIW, they do have a limit on the number of clubs they can have in the bag. I am suggesting a limit on the number of bridges one can use, and that limit be zero (:

Using the mechanical bridge - should it be banned?

No. But by the same token, I wouldn't expect any weight from you because you are (almost certainly) much better than I am. Sort of a whole, "play with what ya got" kind of thing.

    I think that's called "NASCAR".

6'. Why not? Besides which, many shots with the bridge can be avoided simply by playing off-handed.

Using the mechanical bridge - should it be banned?

Sure. But it comes with a penalty. Besides which, there is no sense of defense in golf.

Using the mechanical bridge - should it be banned?

I didn't say anything about punishing anyone.....but if short, fat people are not given extra tools to do the job in a sprint race, I dunno why they should be given them in a game of pool either.

Using the mechanical bridge - should it be banned?

This is an issue that has stuck in my craw a long time. I just decided to ask about it, now that I have the opportunity. Using that argument - all "sports" should be adjusted for the physical characteristics of the players. Short people should be given a distance spot in races, weak people...

By some definitions. Others say you can hustle not by lying, but withholding information. So, putting this in the salesmen mode.... Do you tell your customer your profit margin? Your commission? The absolute rock bottom price he can get the product for if he dickers long enough and you want the...

Using the mechanical bridge - should it be banned?

For purposes of this conversation, I am talking about playing on a 9' or smaller table. Please keep that in mind. That said - I think use of the mechanical bridge is BS. I think that having to reach for a shot, make a shot off-handed, playing a reachable but less desirable shot or winging it...

Well, that's just a criminal and robbery. The game of pool is just a pretext to rob you. Exactly! It takes two to make the bet - and both of them are thinking the same thing, "I can beat this guy!"

I think so, yes - and the bigger the bet is, the more greedy it is. And let's face it, we're not talking about 50 cent games here, are we?

Sure you can quit. Just pay up and leave! But as for the informed consent - you have it!! When someone offers you a bet, they are informing you they intend to take your money. By accepting the bet, you consent to having them do so.
