    Practice

I have a really hard time focusing if I have no opponent. I need to be competing to play my best, so the only way that I've found to practice by myself is to record straight pool runs. Anything else and I just seem to revert to banging balls. It would probably be good practice for mental...

how do I improve on my break?

The Predator break app really helped to diagnose and fix my break. Makes it really easy to get feedback as you try different things. Best $6 or whatever it was that I've spent on pool.

    14.1 Stats -- John Schmidt's Run of 434 on Video, December 2018

This part: is BS. You're pretty clearly calling John a cheater. I'm not sure what your deal is, but slandering someone like that takes pretty big balls. If it was me you were talking about, I'd take it very personally. Tarnishing a person's reputation without cause is pretty low, especially...

Which ball set should I buy?

Cyclop is best bang for the buck. I got the original skittle balls and love them. If you do go with Aramith, Duramith is what you want. Everything else in the Aramith line is inferior to Cyclop. You have to ask yourself if you want to pay a little for great balls, or much more for very...

Fear that John Schmidt might need...

I used some scrap lexan plastic I had laying around. 2" circles cut into a pac-man shape. Works great.

Loree Jon Snooze - what would you have done?

If you look at JB's reaction as she watches the balls come to a stop, she shows NO signs of annoyance at having fouled. No wince, no frown, no scowl... She just calmly surveys the table to see what she has left her opponent. I have a hard time believing that she could knowingly foul in that...

    Tips... Are we fooling Ourselves?

I make my own version of milk duds: Elk master soaked in a 20% carpenter glue/ 80% water solution for a couple of days, then pressed to 30lbs in my homemade tip press for a few more days, re-torquing to 30lbs periodically as the water gets pressed out. Best of all worlds in my opinion. Dirt...

How Often Has This Happened to You?

This could be me. I find that the longer I play, the easier it gets to flow. A session will go: Run 3 miss, miss break, run 4 miss, run 12 miss, run 4 miss, run 20... etc etc. Very seldom will I have a well thought out run early. I TRY to focus from the start, it just seems to get easier the...

Camera mounted to light above table

I looked into it a bit when I first set it up, and I'm pretty sure it's possible to run interactive overlays. Don't think there's anything plug-and-play though, and it seemed like more effort than I wanted to invest to get it working, so I gave that part of the project up for now.

Camera mounted to light above table

I haven't, but I should just to see if I can get everything in frame. I use 2 LED tube style lights, so it should be easy to spread them apart and get the camera to see between them. If I do I'll report back with results.

Camera mounted to light above table

For my garage I use a logitech C930 webcam connected to an old laptop running free OBS Studio software. Pretty inexpensive solution to get decent quality. Microphone is built in to cam. Eight foot ceiling, cam is mounted about 3" below ceiling, 3' away from edge of table. Sample video...

Maximum Throw at Different Speeds and Angles Video

Lots of good stuff to think about here. Thanks for putting in the work. I'm assuming your testing was done with polished, like-new balls. Did you do any testing with dirty balls? I'd assume that that would amplify the throw by a lot.

The weather has nothing to do with pool, or does it?

Maybe, but it's still a great mentality to carry around.

What are a few of the best pool ball sets in the $100 to $200 price range?

If you can get new cyclop balls for $175 jump on it. In my opinion they're every bit as good as centennials (actually I prefer the cyclop, but just because I like the skittle colours. Playability-wise they are equivalent). I've had mine for several years now, probably 10,000 racks or so, and...

    Homemade Ball Polisher, Drill Powered

Here's a drill powered polisher I came up with that works pretty good. I think it cost about $20, most of that was to buy fidget spinners for bearings, and ready rod for shafts. The rest was scrap I had laying around. Feel free to steal/modify the design. Video: https://youtu.be/mdWtVb2nlsE

    Break Speed

I know I'm late to the party, but I'll bump this old thread... About 3 months ago I found out about the break speed app, so I bought it. I knew I had a pretty devastating break, I was just curious about exactly how awesome it really was. Around 16.5 MPH. I was pretty crushed. I've been...

Who has the best looking set of balls

I love my Cyclop skittles and you can't beat the bang-for-buckitude of them, but if budget was no concern I'd have gotten the centennials. They're just sharp looking.

Help with changing a tip on a cue

The most important thing with CA glues (superglue) is to buy it from a busy store like walmart. You don't want glue that's been on the rack for 6 months.
